IGP’s wrong over no action in Deepa's case
YOURSAY ‘Kidnapping is now okay so long as the kidnapper is a Muslim?’
MIC, MCA slam cops for inaction in Deepa's case
Dr Suresh Kumar:
Mr IGP (inspector-general of police), please don't take the people for a ride. All Malaysians irrespective of race, religion, creed and colour are subjected to the civil court.
Only Muslims are bound by the Syariah Court where S Deepa, being a non-Muslim, will not be able to seek recourse unlike her convert husband.
In such circumstances, the High Court verdict should be respected simply because all Malaysians without exception are bound by the civil court.
Izwan Viran Abdullah's action is nothing short of broad daylight abduction. There were no communications whatsoever, and the child was bundled into a car driven by an accomplice, and in the process endangered the mother's life.
And yet, you see it fit to defend such a thuggish act. This is a criminal offence notwithstanding the verdict of whatever courts of the country.
What if Izwan is not of sound mind and hurts the child to get even with his ex-wife? Are you willing to take responsibility for that?
You hold a superior post, please do not stoop to the level of a low life. Here you have a golden opportunity to prove that you are a cop for all Malaysians. Do not play politics with people's lives, Sir.
Malaysia has been witnessing many mysterious tragedies since the last one month due to bad karma, so please don't add this to the list. Act fairly, sincerely and diligently, pronto.
Swipenter: The 'Ketuanans' and/or religious bigots are using their religion not to do anything, but if it is the other way round they would come after you in a blink of an eye.
It is an unspoken fact that you could be treated differently if you belong to the "best/superior" religion in the world but nothing in their actions shows that they are indeed superior to others. Quite the opposite.
When they lose an argument based on logic, they may resort to violence or just stop you having a dialogue with them if they know that their argument is weak.
When they are a minority, they want equal rights. When they are the majority, they want others to succumbed to their rule.
Geronimo: MIC leader S Vell Paari, for once, I am with you on this. If the police refuse to act, MIC can form vigilante groups to hunt them down.
I believe this is what the IGP wants you people to do. Indirectly, what the IGP is implying is that kidnapping is now okay so long as the kidnapper is a Muslim.
J Ng: The IGP is totally ignorant of the law and law enforcement. His statement reflects his unsuitability to be the country chief law enforcer.
He is probably more suitable to be full-time religious preacher or full-time politician.
Jessy43: Who appointed this man who is unable to think wisely to such an important post? It is time he leaves. Replace him with someone who knows the law and one who can act fairly without fear or favour.
Negarawan: MIC and MCA are doing the right thing. If they can make amends to the parallel syariah-civil courts system that has brought problems and agony for many non-Muslims battling for their rights against Muslim spouses and wrongful conversions, they will at least redeem some of their lost dignity and respect.
This problem cannot be solved on an ad-hoc basis, but must be addressed at parliament level for a sustainable solution.
Samurai: MCA, why howl and beat your chest now, when you were all in power together with Umno when all this nonsense started and was entrenched in our system and in the minds of the people?
You scream at DAP for allowing PAS to push for hudud, but you have remained silent as Umno's even worse extremist religious infiltration has totally messed up our judicial system.
Don't even bother protesting hudud, when you didn't and still cannot do a single thing while Umno's government continues its religious repression of non-Muslims with your so-called democratic pseudo-secular pseudo Islamic state a la Mahathir system.
MinahBulat: Bar Council, the remarks made by the IGP that syariah law appears to override civil law is worrying.
The Bar Council is the last bastion and the custodian of the secular laws in this country. It is not an option to keep quiet. I think now it is time to get the lawyers to march and this time to Parliament.
SpongeBob: Political interference, incompetent judges and inability of appellate court judges to make a clear judgment is causing so much confusion in society.
The IGP is taking advantage of this confusion and becoming a hero of sarcasm. He chooses to act on the court decision that makes him popular and hero among the Umno leaders.
All this because of Umno is using courts as a political tool to get back and this is very much endorsed by MCA and MIC.
Anonymous_1395303251: This "couldn't care less" attitude is typical of the IGP. Since the police will not investigate, is our home minister going to intervene or do Malaysians act to save Deepa? This is really an embarrassment to Malaysians.
Vgeorgemy: Where are the MCA champions, Liow Tiong Lai and Wee Ka Siong who are fighting against hudud in Kelantan?
Are they willing to leave BN till IGP is get sacked?
Apapunboleh: This problem is created by both MCA/MIC as they were the willing partners and abused wives of the tyrant Umno.
Oracle: A political party delegation going to meet and ‘press’ the police to do their duty? Am I dreaming?
