PKR secretary general Saifuddin Nasution may be disqualified from the deputy president race due statements he made in an interview with the New Straits Times , according to the daily.

New Straits Times quoted party sources as saying the remarks pertain to factionalism within PKR, particularly between the Azmin Ali and Abdul Khalid Ibrahim camps.

This was also echoed by China Press , who also cited unnamed party sources.

However, the New Straits Times reported that Saifuddin is “unperturbed” by this as the only two news organisations which PKR members are “barred from speaking to” are Utusan Malaysia and TV3.

In the interview, Saifuddin said Khalid ( right ), who is Selangor Menteri Besar, is a “know-it-all” and incumbent PKR deputy president Azmin is someone who “did not enjoy exchanging views, ideas or debates”.

This had invited flak within the party and there is “mounting pressure” for Saifuddin and his team members—incumbent vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar and party director of strategy Rafizi Ramli–to withdraw.

Malaysiakini has contacted PKR polls committee chairperson Johari Abdul for comments and is awaiting his reply.
