YOURSAY ‘Utusan’s role is to create a sense of paranoia over race, religion and king.’
At least we have 'quality' readers, says Utusan
Slumdog: Assistant editor Ku Seman Ku Hussain, if Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia is such a principled or righteous and responsible newspaper which supposedly encourages high levels of journalistic professionalism, why is your readership decreasing?
How come your rag has lost so many defamation actions? Why does Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak have to ask GLCs (government-linked companies) to place more advertisements in your newspaper in order to bolster your revenue?
Your own editor once said that Utusan lies, exaggerates and spins in favour of Umno and you have the audacity to say that you have quality readers?
These quality readers must be simple minded, easily influenced, brain-dead readers. Imagine linking the MH370 disaster with the CIA.
Onyourtoes: We Malaysiakini readers and commentators must really congratulate themselves. For the first time we are being attacked by another newspaper for displaying "low and filthy" mentality.
Coming from a newspaper known for tormenting and slandering others, I think Malaysiakini readers and commentators must have done something really “noble” for Malaysia.
Good against evil, light against darkness, reasons against foolishness, Malaysiankini readers and commentators have become the voice of conscience of Malaysia.
Moontime: What quality readers are you talking about, Utusan ? The ever dwindling number of readers, stacks of your newspaper piled up high at the news stands and grocery shops point to one thing and one thing only: that you're living in denial of imminent extinction.
You practice gutter journalism to the extreme; spreading lies, slander and insulting the intelligence of rational-thinking Malaysians. It’s only through the support of your political master (read: Umno) that you have managed to survive until now.
Stop living in fantasy and start accepting reality, Utusan .
Milosevic: Utusan’s role is not to practice good journalism nor seek the truth. Its role is to create a sense of paranoia over race, religion and king as a way to protect the ruling establishment.
By so doing, it lowers legal and empirical standards of judgement, making it easier to haul up and put away people with different ideas, even if they are reasonable anywhere else.
The normal process of fostering criticism and counter-criticism is anathema to Utusan’s agenda, and they will work to shut down alternative media outlets. It’s no surprise that Utusan will claim that others are malicious, dangerous and filthy.
Saying that Utusan routinely lies is like water off a duck’s back for them. Sometimes they overdo things detrimental to foreign policy, like linking the CIA to MH370, but they are meant to inflame and create an atmosphere for Umno to repress society.
It’s sad for Malaysia that Utusan in the 21st century is engaged in the journalism of former fascist countries.
Lamborghini: If there is a competition for the most irresponsible, seditious newspaper, Utusan will no doubt win the first prize. It is confirmed by Ku Seman's "longing" article. It just shows how shallow and low quality Utusan's editors are.
Not content with attacking Malaysiakini , now they want to attack its readers. What quality people are you talking about? Who are they? And please remember, self-praise is a disgrace.
Negarawan: Ku Seman's nonsensical articles and gutter journalism has not won him any awards or accolades, unlike his counterparts in Malaysiakini who have won many national and international level awards for high standards of journalism.
Most of the journalists in Utusan are unqualified, and would probably not be able to find jobs elsewhere. They are only surviving due to funding from its political master Umno to act as their mouthpiece.
In a demonstration in May last year, Utusan staff members and editors shamelessly behaved like thugs, hurling objects and abusive words at former staff Hata Wahari despite police presence.
In 1961 Utusan Melayu journalists, led by Said Zahari, went on strike in protest against the paper’s takeover by Umno and the loss of editorial independence.
Since then, Utusan has been continuously instigating racial tensions in Malaysia and Singapore, despite countless legal actions taken against it. Utusan is clearly irresponsible and such an incendiary media should be banned.
Fair Play: Ku Seman, for once I agree with you. Indeed, you have quality readers. And why not? After all, they are mostly graduates from the ‘Ketuanan School of Supremacy’.
But here is the one million question for you. Why do you want to engage these 'filth' readers (paid subscribers) of Malaysiakini ? Did I detect your unbridled jealousy of Malaysiakini's huge success in attracting filth (or more likely unpolished gems)?
Mushiro: This is not even a good try by Ku Seman to attack Malaysiakini readers. A secondary school debater can do much better. Utusan has exposed the lack of intelligence of their editors.
Corgito Ergo Sum: Your editorial reflects your readership. As a man thinks, so is he, says a proverb. And your editorials are rabid, racist and many times, border on insanity. That is a reflection of your quality readers.
Ferdtan: I though April Fool’s day is over but by the latest tirade made by Utusan against Malaysiakini , and now it also included us ( Malaysiakini readers) in the attack, branded us as the "low and filthy" mentality commentators, the joke is still on.
What a good laugh and I hope it stays that way. We hope the enforcement authorities are not stupid enough to step in with the encouragement of this Umno mouthpiece to close or give problems to Malaysiakini .
Everything is possible with the Umno government. There are plenty of dubious laws (and excuses) to stop Malaysiakini . Using Sedition Act is one example. Just pick one of the three Rs - race, religion or royalty.
Lynn Cheang: Utusan , don't talk so much. Just allow your online readers to comment on your site with the same level of openness as Malaysiakini . I can bet my bottom ringgit you will hear equally feisty comments from us keyboard activists. But do you dare?
Appum: Sorry, Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein. Since you dismissed Utusan's claim about the CIA conspiracy in MH370's disappearance, you are definitely not one of Utusan's ‘quality readers’.
A case of 'don’t do as I say' for Hisham
