The Perak Water Board (LAP) will stop scheduled rationing of water supply for the whole Zone One area in the Taiping district which involves 13,678 accounts, this Thursday.

State Public Utilities, Infrastructure, Energy and Water Committee chairperson Zainol Fadzi Paharudin said this was because the water level at the Taiping Headworks Plant had increased from 26 million litres to 30 million litres following the recent rain.

Speaking to reporters after attending the exco meeting in Ipoh today, Zainol Fadzi said the Meteorological Department had carried out cloud seeding because there was not enough rainfall, but recent rain had caused the water level at the Taiping Headworks Plant to rise.

However, he said water rationing would continue for two weeks in parts of the zone two area, which was supplied by the Ayer Kuning Treatment Plant, beginning April 17 to 30, involving 9,841 accounts.

He said the water level at the Ayer Kuning Dam was still low, with a storage capacity of 50 percent.

“Several areas in Zon 2B, which are Taman Semarak, Taman Assam Maju and Taman Raja Idris Shah which involve 1,817 accounts, and Zon 2C which is Taman Kota with 200 accounts, will no longer have water rationing,” he said.

Zainol Fadzi said the duration of water rationing this time would be reduced from two days to 36 hours.

“If previously, it took 40 to 50 hours before water supply is resumed, this time, that has been shortened to 30 to 36 hours. The residents need to manage their water well so as to avoid wastage,” he said.

He said LAP had the approval of the National Water Services Commission (Span) to carry out the water rationing a second time.

At the same time, he said LAP had requested the Meteorological Department to carry out cloud seeding in the Taiping and Northern areas, including at the Bukit Merah Dam which had also seen a drop in water levels.
