A penghulu and a PAS supporter in the Wakaf Bharu constituency collected the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) 3.0 twice, and today returned the additional sum after they were threatened with police action.

Wakaf Bharu constituency mukim administrator Rosli Abdul Ghani said today a statement from a bank showed that the 52-year-old penghulu, who is also a bilal of a mosque, and the 41-year-old PAS supporter cashed their respective vouchers for RM650 which they had collected from the Internal Revenue Board (LHDN) on April 1.

Two weeks later, on April 14, they came to the Pengkalan Kubor community service centre where BR1M 3.0 was being given out in cash and collected the money for the second time, he told Bernama.

Rosli said it had been announced through the chairmen of the federal village development and security committees that those who had collected BR1M 3.0 should not do so again.

"On April 15, the bank contacted me to inform that two recipients of the aid on April 14 had collected the money earlier from another bank," he said.

Rosli said he made it known that if the two recipients did not return the additional money, he would lodge a police report.

"This morning, the penghulu and the PAS supporter returned the additional money to the bank," he added.

Rosli advised the people to be honest when collecting the aid given by the federal government, saying that BR1M was given by the government to ease the financial burden of people in the low-income group.

When tabling Budget 2014 last year, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak announced that households with a monthly income of RM3,000 and below will be eligible for a BR1M of RM650 and single individuals with a monthly income of less than RM2,000, a sum of RM300.
