Three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have lodged police reports against the organiser of the Anti-Goods and Services Tax (GST) protest planned for May in the capital.

Their spokesperson, Amir Amsaa Alla Pitchay said action should be taken against the organiser as the rally would cause upheaval and tarnish the country’s image.

“It will adversely affect the economy and disrupt businesses,” he told reporters after the three NGOs lodged their reports at the Sentul District Police Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

The NGOs were Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (IRIMM), Dewan Ekonomi dan Sosial Muslim Malaysia (DESMMA) and Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM).  

Amir Amsaa, who is also IRIMM president, said those who were unhappy over the GST implementation should use proper channels to air their grievances and not promote rally culture to drive home their points.

Malaysia is set to introduce the GST at six percent and abolish the sales and services tax from April 1, 2015, announced by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as he unveiled the 2014 Budget.
