The Penang government has taken back a bungalow used by the Penang Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants Association (Puspanita) on Jalan Masjid Negeri after police busted a drug-filled party there.

“Penang Puspanita failed to manage the Penang government quarters well and did not adhere to the agreement.

“The incident has smeared the state government’s good name,” deputy Penang state secretary Muhammad Yusoff Wazir ( left ) said in a statement yesterday.

Muhammad said the building is now under the care of the State Secretary's Office.

He said Puspanita Penang had been occupying the building since February 2010, free of charge, for the purpose of holding official functions.

However, it had contravened the agreement by leasing it out for private functions and homestays, including for visiting college students.

A total of 88 youths were arrested by police in the wee hours of April 20, during a reportedly “wild party”.

Urine tests showed that 58 of them had consumed methamphetamines.
