Kelantan PAS Youth Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has urged BN not to waste public funds by contesting in the Bukit Gelugor by-election, where it is certain to face defeat.

Seeing red over this, PPP information chief A Chandrakumanan asked why the same statement was not made with regard to the Kajang by-election, which he said was triggered by Anwar Ibrahim’s "greed".

"That was done merely for the greed of the opposition leader who wanted to contest for the purpose of becoming the menteri besar of Selangor?

"Why didn't PAS Youth have the guts to question Anwar who asked the incumbent PKR state assemblyperson, who is still alive, to resign from the post.

"Doesn't he (Ahmad Fadhli) know that public funds were wasted in the Kajang by-election?" he asked.

 

Telling Ahmad Fadhli to "mind his own business", Chandrakumanan ( left ) described the PAS Youth leader's remarks as "crazy".

"PAS does not have the right to ask BN not to contest. Further, his call that it is a waste of public funds knowing that BN will lose is arrogant and snobbish," he added in a statement.

Unlike Kajang, the PPP leader said, the Bukit Gelugor by-election would be held because of the death of the MP Karpal Singh in a road accident.

Chandrakumanan said Ahmad Fadhli's statement was akin to calling on the voters in Bukit Gelugor to give up their democratic right.

"Therefore, it is not a matter that BN will lose, it is about exercising the democratic right of the voters to choose their MP," he said, adding that PAS members could choose to refrain from voting if they considered the by-election a waste of public funds.

Chandrakumanan said Bukit Gelugor needed a good MP to represent the voters in Parliament, to speak for them and their development.

"Voters have to be rational rather than sentimental. We sympathise with the loss of the Bukit Gelugor MP but voters need to move forward with a good MP.

"With this in mind, the voters should vote wisely this time around," he added, urging them to back the BN candidate.
