The government has set a moratorium of 10 years on the Federal Territories Affordable Housing (Rumawip) projects and 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing (PPA1M) projects to curb real estate speculation.

Federal Territories Deputy Minister Dr J Loga Balan said during the moratorium period, any sale was prohibited except with the approval of the relevant authorities.

“To prevent speculation, the ministry has also set up a special committee to help plan and coordinate the Rumawip and PPA1M project development,” he said in the Dewan Negara in Kuala Lumpur today in reply to a question from Senator Datuk Chiew Lian Keng.

Loga Balan also said that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) was considering approving the building of 13,662 affordable housing units, including projects on land owned by DBKL.

“Out of the figure, 7,957 units at 13 locations will be built on a privatisation basis, 4,105 units (11 locations) by private developers and the other 1,600 units on DBKL land.”

He said 10,639 PPA1M units priced between RM150,000 and RM300,000 were being built in Putrajaya and expected to be ready before the end of 2017.
