China’s major web portal Sina.com has been stripped of its online publication licence after articles and videos on the site fell prey to the country's high-profile anti-porn movement, Xinhua news agency reported.

A statement released today by the National Office of Anti-Pornographic and Illegal Publications said 20 articles and four videos posted on Sina.com contained lewd and pornographic content.

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and TV has revoked the company’s two crucial licences on internet publication and audio and video dissemination.

Individuals suspected of criminal offense in the case have been transferred to police organs for further investigation.   

Sina.com is the largest Chinese-language infotainment web portal and is run by Sina Corporation which was founded in 1999.
