Liow silent on Umno's hudud ambiguity

YUNoAnon: Hah, Liow, you only know how to talk. When you are asked the same question you put to others, you dare not answer. Lesson here: do not ask others what you yourself won't answer. It makes you look stupid.

Relevancy: For Liow to talk about root causes (of the hudud issue), it's better to look in the mirror first. The lack on the part of MCA to be an equal partner of BN contributes to the situation of late and its history. Basically, MCA has not learned from its history.

Not Smart: Blaming Liow for being silent on the issue is not just enough. His supporters who voted for him at the MCA AGM are equally to be blamed for their silence. Have they pressured their leaders to say something on the issue or themselves have voiced their concerns?

If they continue to be silent and further condone their leaders' silence, it is tantamount to their acceptance of hudud. So why blame other parties, especially the opposition? Where are your responsibilities to the ethnic group that you claim to represent?

Are you all silent because it would jeopardise the appointments of MCA members as cabinet members? Hey, supporters of Liow and his deputy Wee Ka Siong, wake up and come to your senses.

Did you fellas support/vote for them for such inaction? The above comment is not meant to instigate but to wake you fellas up, to realise what the purpose of MCA to its members is.

Anonymous_1397678952: Once again the MCA are called on to take a firm position on a pivotal issue - an issue that can fundamentally alter the character of this country. Unfortunately an association of businessmen do not think long-term. They think short-term. Make your money and run.

Over the years they have allowed the extremists in Umno to move this country in directions never contemplated by the constitution. It is not only the responsibility of PAS, PKR or DAP. Each must stand up for himself and the constituency he represents or purports to represent.

By ducking the issue or adopting an ambiguous stand, Liow does no favour for the Chinese community or the country. Are there no intellectuals within the MCA? What happened to their think-tank? Think through this issue carefully. And perhaps for the first time in your history, have the gumption to do the right thing.

Pahang bans non-Islamic materials from hotels

Gerard Lourdesamy: Very simple. The hotel owners can tell Pahang Islamic and Malay Customs Council (MAIP) that their hotels are only for non-Muslims and that Muslims can look for accommodation elsewhere.

Since MAIP wants to segregate the people with its pettiness that is doing Islam a great disservice, we might as well segregate hotels as well. What about having copies of the Quran in hotel rooms? As a non-Muslim, can I protest that the book offends my religious beliefs and sensitivities?

Lamborghini: The Islamic authorities in Malaysia are coming out with more and more absurd rules and laws. The constitutional rights of the minority religions are being trampled upon and eroded away one by one.

Do they want to turn Malaysia into a Taliban state? How can Malaysia hope to ever progress to become a modern developed nation with these kinds of backward laws? How is the nation ever going to be united with laws and regulations that only favour the majority religion at the expense of the minority religions?

How can the PM and all the government ministers and civil servants ever wear their 1Malaysia logo pins proudly when they are intentionally splitting Malaysia into two or more parts with their stupid, arrogant policies that favour citizens of one particular religion and race?

Malaysia is indeed slithering down the road towards self-destruction and international ridicule

Ratbatblue: They don't care a crap about non-Muslim rights. As with the general sentiment, if you don't like it, leave it (in some instances, leave the country). Next, they will be saying that some hotels are for Muslims only as the very sight of a non-Muslim will give them ideas to leave their religion.

The government is spending millions of ringgit in the Visit Malaysia Year campaigns. All it takes to scuttle this are a few adverse comments by travel journalists/magazines that Malaysia is a very conservative Muslim country (which it will be not too far in the future).

What I want to know is this: who is giving the state religious authorities such orders? Are these people in consultation with the relevant state government people before issuing such decrees?

Today it is the non-Muslim holy book. Tomorrow, what next? Why are the Tourism Ministry people keeping mum? I feel sorry for the majority of the ordinary Muslim citizens of this country: your leaders have little confidence in your faith for your religion. Just seeing a Bible would make you want to convert?

P Dev Anand Pillai: This is a clear message to the non-Malays that they couldn't care a damn about what our rights are. Yet, despite this new policy, many still vote for the BN. Remember, Pahang is a BN-governed state. Such moves will further segregate society in Malaysia.

Unity is only for parades, social gatherings, festivities and general election charades - in reality they just couldn't care a damn.

Kathleen Ong: This is a desperate act by a desperate regime clinging on to power. The easiest and only way to control the masses is through religion.

Divide the races as much as possible, and then gain in the distraction. It is the oldest trick in the book. Wake up, people.
