In the name of loyalty and friendship among members in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition, PAS Penang will help the DAP retain the Bukit Gelugor seat.
 
State PAS commissioner Mohamed Sabu said the party's machinery will provide "maximum" efforts to help DAP in in the May 25 Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election.
 
Mohamed, better known as Mat Sabu, said the party's state commission had met to form a committee to help the DAP in the polls, where nomination date has been fixed for May 12.
 
It is well-known that Mohamad is a close ally of chief minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as both were cell mates in the Kamunting Detention Camp, under the Internal Security Act, in 1987.
 
"Our machinery will start working from now until May 25 to help the DAP candidate, who represents Pakatan Rakyat, win," Mohamad told Malaysiakini when contacted.
 
Mohamad said he had been appointed at the advisor, while the party's central committee member Mujahid Yusof Rawa heads the by-election committee in the Bukit Gelugor.

Mat Sabu not the candidate

 
Mat Sabu then dismissed rumour that his name has been proposed as a candidate, insisting firmly that the seat belongs to DAP.
 
"Such news are heard on the ground. We (PAS) will help the DAP candidate," he said.
 
Yesterday, the Election Commission fixed May 12 for nomination and May 25 as polling day seat which was left vacant by the death of its MP, Karpal Singh.
 
On Apr 17, Karpal, 74, died in a car crash, along with his aid Michael Cornelius Jayakrishnan, 39, in a collision with a five-tonne trailer near Gua Tempurung, Perak, along the North-South highway.
 
In the May 5 by-election, Karpal won the seat with a 41,778 majority, beating MCA's Teh Beng Yeam.
    
The EC announced Dewan Sri Pinang as the nomination center and the official vote counting center.
 
There are 21 voting centers, out of which, four will be opened for advanced voting.
 
Among the 82,431 registered voters, 82,255 are ordinary voters, 148 advanced voters and 28 are overseas voters.
