The Selangor state government should first allow the federal government to gazette locations within the state as spots for major rallies before supporting any public rally in Kuala Lumpur, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.

“If they really want to support rallies (May 1 anti-GST rally), ask them to first allow places where they rule to be gazetted as locations,” he said during a press conference today.

“We wanted to gazette Stadium Shah Alam as a location but the state refused. But they want to support rallies. This is double standards,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid also said that the state did not “give concrete reasons” for rejecting the venue to be gazetted as a site for such rallies.

Ahmad Zahid also denied that the government “has been insensitive” to human trafficking victims in the country.

“It is not fair to say we are not doing justice to the victims. Many of those involved in human trafficking feel they are the victims,” he said.

“But many of them are aware of the risks and are aware that what they are doing is wrong when they enter the country,” he added.
