Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) has nothing to do with the formation of the Penang Front Party (PFP) by 44 Chinese non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the state, says its chairperson Teng Chang Yeow.

“We do not know (about) the setting up of this party (PFP),” he said when asked whether BN was behind the setting up of PFP.

Speaking to reporters after the state BN inaugural meeting in George Town last night, Teng ( left ) said it was normal to see organisations being set up whenever an election or a by-election was to be held.

Anyone could declare they are BN-friendly and the party thanked those who did so, he added.

Yesterday, PFP pro-tem committee chairperson Go Chui Tiong was quoted as saying that the goal in forming PFP was to fight for the people’s future and ensure equal distribution of wealth.

Go also said that he would send the party's application to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) this week so that it could field a candidate to contest the Bukit Gelugor by-election.

On the Bukit Gelugor by-election, Teng said Penang MCA would submit the list of potential candidates and the matter would be discussed by the state BN with MCA president Liow Tiong Lai at the MCA presidential council meeting today.

Teng also said Penang BN had agreed to reappoint Omar Faudzar as secretary, while Tan Cheng Liang is the new treasurer.
