A fire broke out at Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s office in the national capital New Delhi this morning, a senior police official said.

Manmohan and his staff were not present at the time of the incident, China’s Xinhua news agency quoted the official saying on condition of anonymity.

“Six fire engines have been mobilised to douse the flames. But it is not clear whether any important files have been destroyed in the fire,” the official said.

A probe has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the incident.
