The Kelantan Ulama Council of PAS has welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's suggestion that a task force be formed to look into the implementation aspects of hudud in Kelantan.
The council's chairperson Hassan Mohamood ( left ) is reported by Sinar Harian today as saying that PAS would work with Umno in such a task force so that hudud can be further clarified to the people.
"I am confident that no one will lose out with the implementation of hudud, neither PAS nor Umno, but instead it will strengthen Muslims in the whole country," Hassan is quoted saying.
He said despite recent protests, DAP and non-Muslims will also one day support amendments to syariah law to allow PAS to put hudud in place in Kelantan by next year.
All that is needed is enough explanation and understanding, Hassan said.
Similarly, Sinar Harian also reported Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Othman as asking the Attorney-General's Chambers to urge a dialogue and a committee to spearhead discussions on the implementation of hudud in the country.
"Hudud is Allah's law that we hold in high esteem, and for sure, all parties are prepared to work together to help it get realised," Rahman said.
The AG's Chambers can rope together religious scholars and lecturers as well as the respective state Islamic bodies to discuss the matter, he added.
