DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang has demanded that MCA declares whether Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's statement that he did not reject hudud law has been endorsed by the party.

Lim's call comes as MCA launched a broadside against DAP on PAS' move to table a Private Member's Bill in Parliament to enable the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

"Were (MCA president) Liow Tiong Lai ( right ) and the MCA leadership consulted before Najib made the policy change and announcement that the BN federal government had never rejected hudud?

"In the early decades of nationhood, no prime minister-cum-Umno president would unilaterally and arbitrarily make any such announcement involving a major policy change in nation-building without first consulting and getting the consent of all the constituent parties in the ruling coalition," Lim said in a statement today.

He said Liow should not be "blowing hot air" by threatening to mobilise MCA against PAS' hudud plan if it could not deal with its own BN partner - Umno.

"If the MCA president dares not even clarify such an elementary question... then MCA should stop its 'high opera' threatening to unleash thousands of people onto the streets throughout the country, including surrounding Parliament, when it reconvenes in June," Lim said.

MCA silent on Dr M's declaration as well

The non-Muslim parties in both Pakatan Rakyat and BN were placed in a spot after PAS announced its intention to push for hudud to be implemented in Kelantan, while Umno flirted with the prospect of supporting PAS on the matter.

Meanwhile, DAP's Seputeh MP Teresa Kok blamed MCA for not speaking up against then Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he unilaterally declared, in 2001, that Malaysia is an Islamic, which has led to the situation today.

"DAP has strongly opposed Mahathir’s declaration and we have stated our clear stand - we do not support the formation of an Islamic state in Malaysia, whether a la PAS or Umno.

"With the prime minister’s recent revelation that the federal government has never rejected the implementation of hudud, MCA must declare what is its stand and what it will do if Umno decides to support hudud in Parliament," Kok said in a statement today.

MCA, Gerakan, SUPP and LDP from the BN coalition have already announced they are against the implementation of hudud in Kelantan and that their nine MPs would oppose it in Parliament.

Likewise, DAP, which has 38 MPs in Parliament, declared yesterday that it would also vote against any Bill in Parliament that will allow for hudud to be implemented.
