Umno Youth has established an ulama council who will advise the wing on religious matters.
Its deputy chief, Khairul Azwan Harun said the council would give young leaders with religious education backgrounds to get close to Umno Youth.
"The idea to establish the ulama council followed the Umno Youth visit to the Middle East recently.
"Hopefully, the students can contribute ideas to Umno Youth after their graduation," he told a press conference at Menara Datuk Onn in Kuala Lumpur today.
Khairul Azwan ( left ) said the ulama council is led by Umno Youth executive council (Exco) member Fathul Bari Mat Jahya.
Its committee is open to religious leaders who want to contribute views on current issues for the benefit of Islam.
"We believe that with a more open approach, Umno Youth will attract more young ulama and youths to contribute ideas on issues involving Islam."
Citing the hudud law as example, Khairul Azwan said Umno Youth should get the views of various parties and not just the view one of two scholars.
On April 13-16, Umno Youth visited Turkey, Jordan and Saudi Arabia to forge cooperation with AP Party Youth in Ankara.
The delegation also met with Malaysian students in Turkey.
