Ambiga: We told Obama what Najib didn't

Ferdtan: Former Bersih coordinator S Ambiga, don’t be too happy when you have US President Barack Obama’s ears during the meet.

 

It’s a case of freedom of speech but no freedom after speech. Very soon Perkasa and Umno-sponsored NGOs will bay for your and other invited participants’ blood.

 

Obama has now left the country and they will start to call you lot traitors for smearing the name of the country. Anyway, well done, all of you have done us proud. 

 

Whether Obama acts on what had been discussed is not material; at least he got the real picture.

Shame on PM Najib Razak when he declared - standing next to Obama and reading from a prepared text - that Malaysia is a democratic country.

 

If Obama and the world elect to be fooled, it'd be a case of "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me".

 

LKT: If Najib can unashamedly boasted to Obama that he and his minority government is a legitimately and democratically-elected government, it is only right that members of the civil society lead by Ambiga, Bersih leader Maria Chin, Bar Council president Christopher Leong, etc, are able to - on behalf of 52% of Malaysians - tell Obama how Najib and gang actually stole GE13 through massive fraud, suppressed and violated basic human rights of Malaysians, undermined the independent of the judiciary, etc.

 

Too Lan: What will come out this show by Obama, whose main priority is to preserve US dominance vis a vis China? He, like other politicians, will bend and sway to the wind that benefits US.

 

So folks don't hold your breath. Israel has broken hundreds of resolutions passed against it by United Nations. What has US, or for that matter Europe, done? Nothing.

 

DaiGor: Whether Obama bothered or not is not for us to judge. But Ambiga's points are valid. If one has lived in Malaysia for 60 years, one will surely agree with all the points made by her and the other members.

 

Trublumalaysian: Good on you, Ambiga. You had a very credible platform to express Malaysians' views and you articulated just that, without fear or favour.

 

Whether any further reciprocal action is done positively in the near future by Obama and his team is anybody's guess But the awareness of the rot has been established and on the net, it's going viral.  

 

Fair Play: Those who think that Obama's refusal to meet Anwar was a big mistake and that US couldn't care less about us may have to re-think again. It's just like a poker game.

 

Why should Obama show his hand, knowing that Anwar is the biggest threat to the powers-that-be and possibly an useful ally when the time is right. His joint public press meeting with Najib pretty much summed up the situation if one reads between the lines.

 

He had heard everything he wanted to hear from Bersih, Bar Council, Ambiga and all those selected (picked by the US embassy in Kuala Lumpur) to give him a 'balanced' views of all other stakeholders.

 

Besides, what could Anwar possibly tell him that he did not already know other than ruffle his host's feathers?

 

Pemerhati: Both sides, the corrupt and tyrannical BN and the victims of BN tyranny, can say what they like to Obama or any other political leader who visits this country.

 

They will all listen politely and not take any sides openly as the main aim of their visit is to promote the interests of their own country.

 

Obama did obliquely hit out at Najib’s racist policies when he met the young Asean leaders and said that "Malaysia won’t succeed if non-Muslims don’t have opportunity”. At the same time, he tried to make his host happy by complementing him by calling him a reformer.

 

Perhaps white lies are part and parcel of diplomacy. The US embassy would have briefed Obama about Najib’s many crooked and criminal activities such as rigged elections, ‘Altantuya’, ‘Scorpenes’ and his meeting with Saiful Bukhary Azlan regarding a scholarship which was followed up with trumped-up sodomy charges against Anwar.

 

The fact he still made the trip to Malaysia shows that US will overlook Najib’s faults to advance its own interests.

 

Aries46: It is a fallacy to assume that Obama swallows whatever lies uttered to him. He is of course well-briefed and well-versed of the various ills of this nation under the cruel oppressive rule of the Umno regime.

 

We must not underestimate the US embassy. But thanks to Ambiga and the rest from civil society that met Obama. For Obama, there is nothing like hearing it from the horse's mouth.

 

At the end of the day what was revealed to him would have given him a jolt when he reconciles the truth against the lies fed to him by those that whisper behind closed doors.

 

Regardless of the results of this encounter, what is important is to have countered the lies and made aware the true situation on the ground to the most powerful leader of the free world.

 

MM: Change must come from the cries and pain on the behest of the disgruntled common folks for a fairer, just and democratically elected government.

 

The lies and the misguided policies and abuse of archaic discriminatory laws to perpetuate their personal greed will not last if the people wake up.

 

The judiciary, the last bastion for the innocent, is a insult to human intelligence. The controlled press must be held accountable for the distortions and misreporting.

 

The awakening is on the rise and the corrupted regimes days are numbered and a new light will dawn when the masses rise.
