RR: Kadir Jasin, I never thought you were so shallow in understanding what US President Barack Obama was actually telling the whole world.

 

He meant "give equal opportunities to all as equal citizens". And do not suppress or oppress minorities as being done to the poor Muslims in Myammar and minorities in Malaysia.

 

Kee Thuan Chye: This is of course to be expected from Kadir, who is known to be in favour of Ketuanan Melayu (Malay preeminence). I know his thinking and alignment, having worked at the New Straits Times when he was group chief editor there.

 

I had a few confrontations with him, too. I was always at odds with his editorial policies. Malaysiakini and other media should not think Kadir is a liberal and that he holds views that might be considered "alternative" simply because he criticises Najib a lot.

 

He does that apparently because he is with Mahathir. Anyone who thinks Kadir is an independent thinker must be confused. Read his blog postings and see which way he swings.

 

He even told me once I needn't work at NST. "Because you think I'm a lousy editor, because I'm a government ball carrier," he said.

 

His own words. I put him in his place by saying, "You shouldn't be telling me not to work at NST." That shut him up.

 

Clever Voter: Defensive attitudes and arrogance will not get us far. One should not just use what you can see, rather what have we achieved with affirmative actions - not only one ethnic race loses, but the entire community.

 

One cannot go on spending more than half we produced only to create a few bumiputera rent-seekers, mediocre local graduates, uncompetitive industries, and a poor social security system.

 

We deserve better, not only for bumiputeras but the entire Malaysian population.

 

Oracle: Kadir, Daim Zainuddin, Dr Mahathir Mohamad et al are simply, "a collection of extinct volcanoes" to paraphrase Disraeli. We should just ignore their geriatric and incoherent ramblings.

 

Berita Hairan: Kadir, answer us please - are all these controlled by non-Muslims - the cabinet, all government ministries including police, army, navy, LHDN (Inland Revenue Board)?

 

All major funds and GLCs (government-linked companies) that have substantial stakes in hundreds of listed companies in Bursa Malaysia - Petronas, PNB (Permodalan Nasional Bhd), Khazanah, Tabung Haji, EPF (Employees Providence Fund), LTAT (Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera), KWAP (Kumpulan Wang Persaraan).

 

Not to mention, all major banks - Maybank, CIMB - and all major utility companies - TNB, Proton, Syabas, MAS, LRT.

 

And Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary (who controls daily needs like sugar, rice, power generation and many more), Daim Zainuddin, Abdul Taib Mahmud, Mokhzani Mahathir, are they non-Muslims?

 

Louis: Kadir, are you aware that churches have to make do with shophouses and industrial lots? Any application to build one is super difficult. If you do not know real facts, please shut up.

 

Anonymous_1397678952: The space for religious freedom has diminished over the years. The churches in Brickfields, Jalan Gasing and Sentul were built a long time ago.

 

Restrictions on church building imposed since then made new church building quite impossible. Mission schools have declined in standards primarily because government unilaterally altered terms of agreements mutually agreed.

 

Temples all over the place? Agreed. But again most were built in a time when workers worked in estates and labour lines on land owned by estate owners and government - with their tacit or express agreement.

 

Consolidation could take place if government was willing to make available suitable land. As for the use of the term 'Allah', the Christians did not open Pandora's Box.

 

The term was used by Christians of Sabah and Sarawak long before Sabah and Sarawak became part of Malaysia. The Alkitab was approved by the government for use by them.

 

Champion of Progresive Islam: I was a rubber estate boy and dad worked till he was 75 years old. He did not enjoy life just to see that his children would have a better life than him.

 

This is true of most 'pendatangs'. "No free lunch" - that is the pendatangs' motto and their children will carry on that tradition.

Mohican: The incendiary remarks of Kadir do not go well with a person who is supposed to be a responsible journalist unless he wants to join the ranks of guttersnipe Utusan Malaysia journalists.

 

Kadir's distaste for Premier Najib Abdul Razak should not be displayed at the expense of Malaysians.

 

Kadir should talk with respect and dignity otherwise he will be considered with the likes of Ibrahim Ali, Hasan Ali and other senior seniles, who have lost the respect of majority of Malaysians.

 

Tan Kim Keong: Obama's remark that Malaysia will not succeed if non-Muslims are not given equal opportunities as Muslims, is not confined to religious rights.

 

It's about the principle of equal rights in all aspects of life - social, political, economic. Education too.

 

Yours And My Malaysia: Well, if they want to be live like frogs living inside a coconut shell and be in total denial of the state of affairs of this country, so be it.
