The Perlis assembly was today told that the state government would abide by the federal government's decision on the implementation of hudud laws.

State Religious Affairs and Human Development Committee chairperson Khairi Hassan (BN-Mata Ayer) said they would have to await the findings of the Technical Committee on hudud which is to be set up by the federal government.

"We do not have many ulama (religious scholars) like Kelantan. That is why we have to wait. If the outcome is positive, we’ll follow," he said when replying to a question from Mohd sukri Ramli (PAS-Sanglang), who had asked that hudud laws be implemented in the state without delay.

He had asked this because PAS-ruled Kelantan plans to initiate a Private Member's Bill through its MPs in Parliament to seek approval to implement hudud in the state by this year.

In Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said said Terengganu would wait and see first on the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

He said hudud was Allah's laws and must be carried out perfectly and not for political purposes.

"If Kelantan can do it well, we will follow because we cannot reject hudud as they are Allah's laws," he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting here.

In Kuala Lumpur, Umno Youth vice head Azwan Harun said Umno Youth was willing to assist Kelantan PAS to explain hudud in detail to non-Muslim youths.

He said the movement hoped the Kelantan government would accept the offer and meet it to discuss PAS' version of hudud laws.

"It is our hope PAS Youth can join us in this matter. We do not have any political agenda because what is important is that the public understands what hudud entail," he told Bernama in an interview.
