Sarawak DAP today challenged leaders of Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP), the MCA) and Gerakan that have been vociferous against Hudud law to quit the BN now that its head and Umno President Najib Abdul Razak has backed its implementation and is willing to discuss the matter in detail with PAS.

"SUPP, MCA and Gerakan have been the most vocal voices in the opposition of the implementation of hudud law when the issue is brought up by PAS," said Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen.

"However, when their BN master expressed support for the implementation of hudud law, they suddenly become dumb and blind to the statements of their BN masters.

"I challenge them to quit BN or else they should ask Najib or Umno to quit BN unless it has all along the hidden agenda of Barisan Nasional to implement the hudud law," he added. 

He pointed out that it must be clear that PAS, without the full and whole support of BN, cannot carry out the implementation of hudud law in any of the states.  

"The ball is now in the court of the BN," said Chong, DAP’s national vice-chairman and MP for Bandar Kuching.

Sudden silence speaking loudly

 He said that now that Najib had expressed open support for the  PAS move, there is a deafening silence on the part of other non- Umno BN partners, especially SUPP, MCA and Gerakan.

In Sarawak, the state BN assistant minister in charge of Islamic Affairs, Daud Abdul Rahman, has also recently expressed non-objection to the implementation of hudud.

"As for the DAP, our highest decision-making body (the chief executive committee) has, on this Monday, unanimously decided that DAP oppose the implementation of hudud law in Malaysia, be it in Kelantan or any other place.

"Our party stand is that if PAS goes ahead with the implementation of the hudud law, then PAS will have to leave Pakatan Rakyat.

"This has been expressly stated in the press by our party's acting national chairman Tan Kok Wai and our party's parliamentary whip, Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

"With the two statements made and our CEC's unanimous resolution, DAP's stand and principle cannot be made more clear," he said.

"On the other hand, the SUPP is now playing dumb.

 

Rib tickling advice to BN partner

"What SUPP should do now is to ask Najib or Umno to quit the  Barisan Nasional unless it has all along been the hidden agenda of the BN to implement hudud law," he said.

Sarawak PKR has also expressed strong opposition against the implementation of hudud law in the state.

Its chief Baru Bian had criticised Daud Abdul Rahman who had said that the state would comply with the decision or stand of the Prime Minister on the matter.

He accused Daud of lacking in understanding the rights of the Christians in Sarawak who form about 80% of its population of 2.6 million.

These rights, Baru, said were stated in the Malaysia agreement as well2 May 2014 as in the federal constitution.
