Cuepacs warns 'traitors' in GST rally of action

Slumdog: Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president Azih Muda, why can’t you get it in your thick head that to protest or express a view, contrary to the government’s, in not being a traitor.

 

It is the democratic right of every rakyat to assemble peacefully and highlight his/her grouse or concerns. This is expressly provided for in the Federal Constitution regardless of whether you are a civil servant or not. 

 

This Umno goon is unaware of the extent of his own ignorance and stupidity. He might change his mind when the GST (Goods and Services Tax) hits his pocket, because it is going to hurt.

 

Kit P: I find it amazing as well as saddening that Cuepacs, allegedly a union formed to defend member's interests is actually curbing its member's freedom of expression.

 

Civil servants have the obligation to carry out their work per directions from the government of the day. What they express as private citizens is a private matter and their right.

           

Headhunter: The existence of an employees' union is to look after their interest and to ensure that they are not exploited by employers.

 

Is the Cuepacs president asking members to be blindly loyal and willingly be slaves to the government come what may?

 

If that being the case, he's not fit to helm Cuepacs and should step down. Whatever happened to principled union leaders like those in the past who did not suck it up to the government? 

 

Ferdtan: Who is Azih Muda representing? His fellow workers or Umno government? Labour Day is a day for workers whom he is the head, and protest such as the anti-GST rally is necessary to air their grouses through democratic means provided under constitution.

 

So who is a traitor here? Of course it is you, Azih Muda. You betray the trust of your fellow colleagues when you were supposed to defend and lead them to betterment.

 

I have never heard of a union leader anywhere in the world to be so pally with his employer for no good reason. There were many exceptions, of course, paid (induced or monetary-seduced?) to be on their good side. Azih, which one are you?

SteveOh: It is unusual of a union leader to call those whom he represents traitors when he should be at the forefront of the protest against the GST which will adversely affect his union members. So who is the real traitor?

 

Kee Thuan Chye: That is utter bullshit. Civil servants are also citizens with democratic rights. One of these rights is participating in a free assembly.

 

Furthermore, they are equally affected by the GST. It is Azih Muda who is a traitor - for betraying Cuepacs members. Is he saying this because he has sold his soul to the government?

 

Kyrie Eleison: Azih, I have attended a few seminars on GST and all concluded that the price of things will go up. The hardest hit are the low income people.

 

I know you earn your salary and also your future promotion to BN but if you only consider this as important to you then you a a traitor to Malaysians. And that include civil servants.

 

Gerard Lourdesamy: I suggest that the Cuepacs president simply joins Umno and be exempted from the GST. This is not a civil service issue but a national issue.

 

The last I checked the General Orders what a civil servant does after working hours is his or her business provided it is not illegal and they do not bring the service into disrepute.

 

Perhaps the Cuepacs leader should explain the presence of civil servants at Umno-BN functions disguised as government functions.

 

If the civil servants want to be seen to be impartial, they should stay away from such Umno-BN sponsored events or walk out of the hall if ministers and senior civil servants start talking about politics and attacking the opposition.

 

Most civil servants are closet Umno members and have an Umno mentality. Otherwise you cannot get promoted. So Cuepacs, take your holier than thou attitude and stuff it.

 

Onyourtoes: The PM reminding the civil servants their employment is an iron rice bowl, unbreakable forever, come what may. And the Cuepacs president warning the civil servants to stay blindly loyal, failing which actions will be taken against them.

 

I guess the battle for Malay votes has begun in earnest. The May Day rally at Dataran Merdeka has shown overwhelming and remarkable support by the Malays. It looks like civil servants are now the last bastion of Umno.

 

Peacemaker: Cuepacs must surely know that civil servants are consumers just like any other Malaysians. So if  they disagree with GST they too have a right to express so, and it does not prejudice their governmnet jobs.

 

So the question of being a traitor does not arise. In fact I'd say that if Cuepacs considers them traitors, then Cuepacs has become the BN's lapdog and does not have to moral standing to represent the best interests of government servants.

 

Hmmmmmmmm: A union leader actually siding with the government to impose more taxes on his members! Can you beat that?
