MCA president Liow Tiong Lai said today the party wants to rejoin the cabinet not to seek positions but to serve the Chinese community and the nation.

He said the party had to resolve problems besetting the Chinese community and would use government resources to help.

"(At the same time) more states will (also) be taking in exco (executive councillors) (from MCA)," he said in Petaling Jaya.

Asked what cabinet posts the MCA would likely hold, Liow said: "We don't discuss cabinet positions in the media.

"I apologise for that, but we have had very frank and good discussions with the prime minister," he said.

Yesterday, Najib invited the MCA to rejoin the cabinet to grow stronger within the Barisan Nasional (BN) and help chart the future of the nation together.

The MCA had kept its word of not taking up government positions in the event it fared poorly in the 13th general election held last year.

In February this year, the party's central delegates approved a resolution to take up such posts.
