There is no secret agenda between PAS and Umno over the hudud issue, according to Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

Mohd Amar, who is also chairperson of the technical committee on the Syariah Criminal Code Enactment (2) 1993 which introduces hudud law, said PAS’ action to compromise with Umno was to realise the implementation of the law after 20 years.

"I deny there is a secret pact or agenda. This allegation is without basis. The discussion between Kelantan and the federal government is specifically on hudud and nothing else. It does not involve joining BN.

"What is wrong that we as Muslims cooperate together for the benefit of the ummah (Muslims). In fact, we joined in the demonstration against the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST)," Mohd Amar ( right ) was quoted as saying in Sinar Harian.

He also said in the past, PAS cooperated with Umno and participated in the National Economic Consultative Council, and former PAS president, the late Fadhil Nor, sat with then premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the Palestine issue.

Mohd Amar said whatever Umno's intention, “we leave it to Allah”.

In the past, he added that Umno opposed the move to implement hudud but now the ruling party has offered to help, “so we have to seize the opportunity.”

It was reported on Friday that the Kelantan and federal governments agreed to form a technical committee on the implementation of hudud in Malaysia.

"We will also take into account the demands of the constitution and the non-Muslim community so that the beauty of the Islamic penal code can be seen, that it has a good start, and not be criticised," Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom had said.
