We don’t need antibiotics, we need gov't transplant
YOURSAY ‘Antibiotics can't fight cancers such as corruption and wastage.’
GST is like antibiotics, says Najib
Joker: PM Najib Razak didn’t give the full analogy. The other half of the story is that GST (Goods and Services Tax) is necessary because Malaysia, akin to an individual's body, was not well taken care of.
It fell sick due to an unhealthy lifestyle. The antibiotic is only a temporary help but will ultimately be useless if the unhealthy lifestyle remains.
The BN government does not have a good track record of managing our finances. Whenever it has excess funds (from Petronas or excise duties on vehicles which were supposed to be temporary), it spends them all (and then some) instead of putting it away for future generations.
Will GST reduce the country's budget deficit? I highly doubt it.
Statue of Liberty: Najib finally admits that our economy is very ill, and will surely die if the GST antibiotics are not administered.
Apacerita: Too much antibiotics will do more harm that cure. This is what doctors say. And they only give antibiotics as the last resort. If possible, let our own immune system fight the disease.
Not Smart: Mr PM, your justification is utmost rubbish. Quote: “Some appear poor by under-declaring income.”
PM, get your people to go to the ground and punish these ‘some people’. You just want to protect the few from hard work, but impose sufferings on the millions. Recruit more enforcement officers and get them to work instead of sitting comfortably in their offices.
Quote: “GST needed to take care of civil servants.” PM, if GST is needed to increase the wages to 1.5 million staff and later they are subjected to GST, it is akin to giving with your right hand and later taking away with your left hand. If you are sincere to civil staff, then you should exempt us from GST.
Show us that you are honest and address allegations on corruption/cronyism. If only the 1.5 million staff members are taken care, who is going to take care of their spouses, parents, siblings and children who work in the private sector?
Anonymous_40f4: Umno corruption is cancerous, so antibiotics won’t work. It needs a government transplant such as with Pakatan Rakyat.
Fourtan: "We hear of stories of people who are supposedly poor but can still send their children overseas," said Najib.
Najib, I’ll tell you a true story. This Chinese pancake seller uncle I know has been selling his treats from an old bicycle for close to half a century. He used to sell the pancakes at 50 sen apiece, I remember.
He managed to send two of his kids overseas for medical degrees. To me, this uncle had managed to beat the laws of gravity.
Podeh: Najib, we wouldn't need antibiotics if you and Umno did not make us ill in the first place.
Casey919: Corruption is like a dangerous drug. You need to continue the dosage until you are filthy rich.
Anonymous #06188481: Najib doesn't seem to have the capacity to understand what the rakyat is saying out loud to him. Or he just refuses to listen because he doesn't care. He is barking up the wrong tree.
He is answering questions the rakyat are not asking. What the rakyat is saying is get the mess cleaned up first; get those who are corrupted and charge them; go on an austerity drive; I mean we can go on and on for there are many ways to save RM for the country.
Spinnot: Antibiotics can't fight cancers such as corruption and wastage.
Fair&Just: The cancer analogy is a good one. The cancer is the corrupt and evil government siphoning all the borrowed money, taxes and incurring heavy debts for the nation through leakages, wastage, heavily over-inflated purchases, extravagant travelling and profiteering.
The way to eradicate all such corrupt practices is by cutting away the cancer, which is getting rid of the corrupt government.
Touche: GST is for paying down the huge debts owed by the government and to line cronies’ pockets. It’s not to benefit the rakyat.
Tommy: As I have mentioned before, Malaysia is a resource-rich country. These resources are easily turned into liquid cash and Malaysia is supposed to be a super-rich country, but what happened throughout the 50 years of ruling by BN?
Endless plundering of the nation's resources. From tin ore, rubber, palm oil, minerals, etc, etc. Now they want to plunder the rakyat? Mr PM, you should answer why Malaysia is in its current state to the rakyat.
Onyourtoes: There are hundreds of things you need to do to transform this country, but have you done them? All you are fixated on is finding more revenue so that you can continue your lavish and wasteful way.
I can assure you GST will not make an iota of difference to the fiscal health of this country if other enabling factors are not taken into account. Right now, it is my considered opinion that you have not done so.
GST will be just another tax and spending mechanism for you, nothing more, and nothing less.
Justice Pao: The problem is that Umno are viruses such that antibiotics is ineffective against them.
They will continue their stealing, robbing and weakening of the economy until the country is bankrupt and most of the rakyat becomes poor.
Chitra-ngada: What a fitting description with unintended consequences. People don't want to take antibiotics any more just like people don't want to pay more and more taxes for you goons to squander.
Why antibiotics, when we can go for more natural cures like eliminating leakages, corruption, etc.
Karpalism: We have sick ministers but a healthy Malaysia. Malaysia is made sick by a sickening ‘leadersheep’.
