DAP will announce its candidate for the Bukit Gelugor by-election this Saturday, the party’s Penang chief Chow Kon Yeow said.

"We will also be launching our Bukit Gelugor election operations centre on Saturday at noon," he told a press conference after meeting with party leaders at Wisma DAP today.

Also present were acting chairperson Tan Kok Wai, DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong.

However, the leaders continued to be tightlipped over the choice of candidate although speculation is rife that it would most likely be lawyer Ramkarpal Singh, 38.

Ramkarpal ( right ) is the third son of Karpal Singh, the two-term Bukit Gelugor incumbent who was killed in a road accident on April 17.

Ramkarpal also confirmed being on the list proposed by the Penang leadership to the DAP central executive committee which met last week to decide on the matter.

Quizzed on this, Lim merely smiled, saying, "As Chow mentioned, it will be announced this Saturday."

"We will give priority to the five names mentioned by the state committee," he added.
