Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said DAP leaders would not be cowed by the selective persecution by the Attorney-General's Chambers and would stand with Kok "to fight this injustice until the end".
"We will also leave it to the rakyat to judge whether such persecution is fair or not," the Penang chief minister said at Wisma DAP on Jalan Rangoon in George Town today.
"DAP leaders are used to such charges as these have selectively been used to attack us and this time, it is used against Kok to kill her political career and to put pressure on the party," Lim added.
He was referring to Kok's charge under Section 4(1) (C) of the Sedition Act 1948 for uploading a video titled ‘Teresa Kok: Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014’ on YouTube at 9am on Feb 1, this year.
The 11-minute Mandarin clip features Kok as a talk show host who interviews a panel of experts on what to expect in the Year of the Horse.
In her charge sheet, it was noted that the Seputeh MP was said to have insulted Malays, Islam, the monarchy, the security forces, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor.
Lim ( left ) said the attorney-general and the law have been used as weapons to attack DAP leaders. He urged the party's detractors to challenge them in the general elections and not in this "shameful manner".
"If the AG is fair, why are some individuals like Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali not arrested for sedition when he suggested that the Bible in the Malay language be burnt?" Lim asked.
"Why was action not taken against those who threatened to slap Kok over her video, with some offering a bounty for the act?" he asked.
"This is criminal provocation and still no action. But Kok is charged for her video when it has already been said in Parliament that she did not mention the prime minister's name in her satirical piece," Lim added.
