A vocal DAP leader has asked the Malays if the community should turn a blind eye to corruption and abuse of power because of race.

In a stinging blog post, Ariff Sabri said: "Do we in the name of race forget the abuse of power, oppression, incompetence, squandering of national wealth and impoverishing of the majority?"

 

"The oppressors are Malays and the oppressed are Malays. In this situation, the relevant question is whose side are we on? The side of the oppressors or the oppressed?" he added.

The Raub MP said his migration from Umno to DAP was not important because what superceded that is for whom he speaks for.

Among others, Ariff said he voices out against the "neo-feudal" Umno government of today, which is led by those who fashion themselves in the name of the Malay race.

"Selling Malay land, embezzling people's money, doing projects with the agenda of enriching themselves and their Chinese and Indian friends, creating monopolies, running away from paying taxes. All of these are done by the Malay government.

"In this situation, what should I be branded as? Whose tool am I?" he added.

Ariff said that while Umno supporters can continue to throw their weight behind the party and its "piracy" agenda, they should not expect other Malays like himself to do the same.    

"Our objective is clear. Topple the Umno-led government through the channels permitted by the law.

"What more when our nation is led by someone who is spineless and lacks courage," he added in an obvious reference to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The Raub MP also noted that one of the negative implications of a multiracial nation is that certain irresponsible quarters would pit one race against another.

For example, he said DAP's opposition towards the Umno-dominated BN is viewed as a group of Chinese going against the Malay government.

"For all intents and purposes, and we don't have to lie to ourselves. The government today is seen as a Malay government and whatever opposition towards it is equated with opposing the Malay race. This is not correct but it is a fact," he added.

Putting forth a hypothetical scenario, Ariff asked what if Malaysia only consisted of Malays.

"How would those who oppose the government be categorised then? As traitors? Or those who have turned their backs on their own race?" he added.
