Indonesia’s anti-corruption agency is considering uploading videos of graft trials on the popular video-sharing website YouTube , a report said today.

The Corruption Eradication Commission is consulting the Supreme Court about the plan to upload a trial video immediately after a hearing, spokesperson Johan Budi was quoted as saying by the Jakarta Post .

“It’s for the sake of transparency so the public knows the progress of graft cases tried at the Jakarta Corruption Court,” Budi said.

“The most important thing is it should have a deterrent effect on graft perpetrators,” he said.

The office of Jakarta deputy governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama regularly uploads videos of his meetings with officials.

Purnama, better known as Ahok, is sometimes seen in the videos scolding subordinates for what he considers poor performance.

The anti-corruption commission has the power to arrest and detain suspects. It has prosecuted former ministers, governors, legislators, former central bank chiefs and businessmen, with a conviction rate of nearly 100 percent, since it was established in 2003.

Indonesia ranked 114th out of 177 countries in the 2013 corruption perception index released by Transparency International, with number one being perceived as the least corrupt.
