At a surprise mini-ceramah at Taman Tun Sardon early this morning, independent candidate Abu Backer Sidek Mohd Zan urged PAS and Umno to repent for sowing the seeds of division among Muslims.

He said the two parties ought to do so as they are fighting and wrestling with each other causing the friendship among those with the same "agama, bangsa and negara" to break-up.

"You are fighting and conflicting with each other when you should be united," said Abu Backer, at the Taman Tun Sardon food court this morning before going for a walkabout.

"You tell the wrong version of hudud to non-Muslims. Hudud is a beautiful law. I will explain it to (DAP's) Ramkarpal Singh, maybe he does not have any knowledge about this," said the lawyer who runs a legal firm in Kelana Jaya.

The DAP has consistently opposed the implementation of the Islamic law, and reinforced its stand when PAS had earlier planned to table a Private Members Bill in Parliament next month but had since shelved it.

Abu Backer is up against Ramkarpal, Parti Cinta Malaysia's Huan Cheng Guan and independent Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohd Nabi Sathar for the Bukit Gelugor seat with polling scheduled for next Sunday.

The seat fell vacant when it's incumbent Karpal Singh died on Apr 17 in a massive car crash in Perak.

Plan for hudud mega-forum

Earlier, Abu Backer expressed intentions to organise a "mega-forum" on hudud on Thursday, saying he wants to invite all the big-wigs to attend the event where they can all hear and learn about the Islamic criminal law.

He promised to analyse the hudud law in detail, comparing the real version with the one propagated by PAS and with the law that is currently being implemented in Brunei, adding that he has the qualifications to do so.

On his invitation list are Prime Minister Najib Razak, Ramkarpal, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Ministers Hishammuddin Hussein and Mustapa Mohammed.

"What's the name of the MCA president who didn't want to contest? I want to invite him too," he asked, "Liow Tiong Lai" a reporter told him.

He warned others not to play around with the issue, adding that the law does not "disturb" non-Muslims.

"Only syaitan is scared of hudud. Those who are scared of hudud are those who sin and those who persecute non-Muslims," he said.

"In Islam, if an Islamic leader applies cruel laws to people, he has sinned. And if he sins, where is his place, dear ustazs? Yes, in hell," he added, urging wrongdoers to repent for forgiveness.

Before making his rounds to greet the public at the food court and market, Abu Backer was lamenting about his "horse grazing" logo, saying he was forced to accept it as he is a law-abiding citizens.

Confrontation with Bersih man

He then said as such he was against Bersih, the coalition for clean and fair elections.

As he was going on and on about Bersih and his opposition to lawyers taking part in street rallies, he spotted a man in a yellow Bersih T-shirt ( topmost photo ).

"Their intention may be right but their ways are wrong," he said, as he tried to shake hands with the man.

The man refused, later telling Malaysiakini that "he is saying these things in front of me, it is not fair".

Abu Backer then went around shaking hands with those having  breakfast, passing on his legal firm's business cards to them.

He met a school boy with his father, and gave the former long advice on education and doing well in school.

"If you get As, contact me, whether I win or lose, I will give you RM100 for each A," he told the young boy, in a turquoise blue baju melayu.
