MH370 The Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and United Kingdom’s Inmarsat said today that all parties are working to release the data communication logs and the technical description of the analysis for public consumption.

In a joint press statement in Kuala Lumpur today by the DCA and Inmarsat, they said the move was in line with their commitment towards greater transparency.

The statement was issued following an announcement by Defence Minister and acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein yesterday, instructing the DCA to discuss with Inmarsat on the release of the latter’s raw data for public consumption.

Hishammuddin said this was done in light of the recent demands by the next-of-kin of passengers of the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370 for the Inmarsat ‘raw data’.

In the statement, DCA also said it was pleased to provide further information on the discussion with Inmarsat, assisted by UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), to get a common descriptor for the Inmarsat satellite data that had been provided to Malaysia Airlines after MH370 went missing.

It must be noted that previously where reference had been made to ‘data communication logs’ and ‘raw data’ - they referred to the same set of data, the statement said.

The statement stressed that it was imperative for both agencies to provide helpful information to the next of kin and general public, which would include data communication logs as well as relevant explanation to enable the reader to understand the data provided.

It must be noted that the data communication log was just one of the many elements of the investigation information, the statement said.  

The DCA also noted Inmarsat’s full support for the ongoing MH370 investigation.
