State opposition leader Jahara Hamid today said a police report should be lodged against Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer for repeating a provocative word which could cause tension and trouble.

She described Rayer’s action of uttering the word “celaka” at Umno, this time at a ceramah in Island Glades in George Town last night, as arrogant and that he felt he was free to abuse and curse others.

“Rayer had earlier asked police to give him 24-hour security protection while he himself does not know how to behave.

“What qualifies him to receive 24-hour protection? Is it for him to use the coarse word again?” she said at a press conference after the winding-up session at the state assembly sitting in George Town today.

In an arrogant tone at last night’s ceramah, Rayer said that Umno was no longer relevant and had never helped the other communities in the country.

“Let me repeat here, celaka Umno and I direct it only at the party and not at the Malays,” he was quoted as saying.

Jahara said she saw no attempt by Rayer to defuse the tension caused by his provocative action at the state assembly sitting on Tuesday, instead he was very proud of his action.

“Malaysians who have worked hard to preserve harmony and unity in the country, don’t need individuals like Rayer as all this could be destroyed.”

On the reluctance of the Penang state assembly to allow a motion to demand Rayer to apologise and withdraw his offending remark, Jahara said it showed the lack of transparency of the DAP-led state government.

“Perhaps Rayer thinks he is invincible as Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is protecting him, thus his extreme behaviour,” she added.

Earlier at the assembly sitting, Jahara had interjected Lim while the latter was speaking, questioning the state government’s sincerity to correct the wrong.

“We had hoped for support because if we wish to preserve harmony in the House and uphold its sanctity, we should take responsibility together and have the sincerity to correct the wrong,” she said.

To this, Lim replied: “The decision was made by the speaker (Law Choo Kiang-PKR-Bukit Tambun) and the matter was handled by him. I am not the speaker, I am the chief minister representing the state government.

“I don’t want to interfere in the decison made by the speaker.”
