Selangor has urged the Attorney-General's Chambers to expedite a solution to the state Islamic department's seizure of 320 copies of the Bible from the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) nearly five months ago.

 

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim ( right ) told Sinar Harian that state exco member Elizabeth Wong has written to the AG's office on this but was yet to receive a reply.

 

"It's up to the AG’s office. We urge them to find a solution to this issue," Khalid is quoted as telling reporters during the wedding reception of PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim's daughter yesterday.

 

Khalid confirmed that the copies of the Bible in the Malay language, which were taken away by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) on Jan 2, were still in Jais' safekeeping.

Jais had relied on the Selangor Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Propagation Among Muslims) Enactment 1988,  which bans non-Muslims from using the word “Allah” as contained in the seized copies of Al-Kitab.

 

Meanwhile, MB Khalid also urged PKR members not to cover up any proof of corruption and abuse of power in the party.

 

Sinar Harian also quoted Khalid as applauding the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for hauling up a 32-year old politician last Friday.

 

The unidentified politician was alleged to have asked for RM4,000 from a private company, MACC reportedly told Sinar .
