Anwar's 'stupid' Chinese remark irks Gerakan
Ferdtan: They called you ‘pendatang’. They say you are ungrateful. They ask you to go back to China. They questioned your loyalty to Malaysia.
When they were opposed, they send ‘samsengs’ to kick the glass door of Penang chief minister’s office in Komtar, barged into the Penang State Assembly and threatened to burn down the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur; all under the guise of hitting at the predominantly Chinese party.
These were clearly racial in nature. They even had the temerity to offer a reward to slap Terasa Kok, a Chinese MP.
With all these happenings and insults, not only Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim was right to state the obvious, we, the Chinese, echoed what he said; “Only stupid Chinese support BN - meaning Umno.”
The Chinese at the Teluk Intan ceramah were not offended by Anwar’s speech as it was not an insult. Indeed, the crowd clapped and cheered as they too agreed with Anwar. If I was there, I would too.
We are not so thin-skinned unlike those Umno-sponsored NGOs protestors who ran wild on the street threatening to burn building at the slightest perceived provocations from their political opponents.
Gerard Lourdesamy: Anwar is right. Despite racist statements from Umno leaders during the campaign trail primarily directed at the Chinese, Gerakan and MCA are keeping quiet.
This shows how servile they are to Umno, disguised as consensus decision-making and power sharing within BN. Given the daily dose of Chinese-bashing by Umno and extremist Malay/Muslim NGOs, any other Chinese party in a coalition of equals would have quit the coalition and told Umno to take a hike.
Let them try to govern the country without non-Malay participation and face the political, economic and social repercussions. Do Gerakan and MCA have the gumption to stand up to Umno?
Jiminy Qrikert: Chinese who vote for BN are called many things, especially MCA, from ‘stupid’ to ‘running dogs’ to my personal favourite for MCA, ‘Umno's urinals’. Anwar calling these Chinese stupid is mild, very mild.
The community curses MCA and these Chinese for being stupidly enslaved to Umno's racist policies, doing their every bidding. To the community, these Chinese are a disgrace to their ancestors which Umno insults regularly as pendatangs and prostitutes.
For a Chinese, being a disgrace to one's ancestors is the greatest insult ever, worse than being called urinals for Umno. Chinese who support BN automatically support Umno and therefore are guilty of bringing disgrace to their forefathers, especially so their females ancestry.
Their grandmothers and great grandmothers were insulted as prostitutes and these Chinese meekly swallowed these insults. Indeed, these Chinese deserved to be urinals for Umno.
Siang Malam: I am a Chinese and I think Chinese are stupid if they vote Gerakan and BN - children with 14As in SPM cannot get scholarship but you still believe in BN? More than just stupid...
Pputeh: Gerakan, open your eyes. Who has used words against the Chinese like ingrates, ‘pendatang’, ungrateful, ‘penceroboh’ to name a few?
Spinnot: Anwar has valid reason to describe the Chinese who support BN as "stupid". Who called the Chinese "immigrants" and "prostitutes"? Who blamed the Chinese, and Chinese only when they lose elections?
Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, on the other hand, has no reason to use the term "ingrates" to call the Chinese who support DAP.
If the Chinese support DAP, they are rejecting BN, they are not rejecting the ordinary Malays or Indians.
Myrights: Although I am a Pakatan Rakyat supporter, I disagree with Anwar in this case.
Calling anyone stupid for not agreeing with you is typical Umno behaviour. By labeling those who don't support you as stupid will only anger and push the people away rather than convince them to change sides.
Those who agree with Anwar are already Pakatan supporters so he won't be gaining new supporters here.
Anwar should have tried to win them over by explaining how BN parties kept quiet when Chinese were attacked by Umno warlords, Perkasa and Isma and why Pakatan will be able to change that.
In this case, I am convinced that what Anwar has done here has not helped Pakatan win more supporters but in fact made it harder to win more votes. I think it is a miscalculated move by Anwar.
I Wonder?: Myrights, you are entitled to your opinion, which I respect in this democratic society. But I beg your pardon to differ with reasons listed in my earlier comment that there exist good, bad and ugly in every community and organisation.
There is majority wise people and there is minority stupid people who can sell everything and anything right or wrong simply for immediate personal and individual gains in which they deserved be called stupid and even traitor to our country.
Anwar only referred to the minority as stupid, which I as a Chinese do acknowledge and accept as a fact.
Moreover, please be reminded that the righteous and truly patriotic people here is not fighting and dealing with gentleman.
We are fighting against the most incorrigible and corrupted and most evil leaders who are using dirty tricks to hit below belt. Therefore only the genuinely stupid would feel irked and offended by Anwar.

Casey: Anwar is absolutely right. The Chinese who support Umno are stupid. Being subservient to Umno was the primary reason that had underpinned the tragedy that had befallen MCA and Gerakan.
No righteous Chinese would tolerate being represented by political parties which continuously sell out, betray, compromise and trade on the integrity and dignity of the Chinese.
It's particularly hard for the Chinese to take after being stabbed in the back by a party which they have helped to sustain in power for almost six decades.
In fact, it is such a terrible, terrible betrayal, the trust that the Chinese used to have in the government. Umno is the traitor to the Chinese and not the other way around.
Anonnona: Penang Gerakan chief Teng Chang Yeow, you are not in a position to criticise anybody about race. Gerakan's friends are Umno, Perkasa and Isma who have been helping to campaign for your candidate in Teluk Intan.
Telestai!: Suck it up, Teng. You reap what you sow. Is it not okay for a Pakatan leader to call BN Chinese supporters stupid when a BN leader had labelled DAP supporters as ingrates? If you did not agree, why did you not speak up?
Oh Ya?: I fully agree. Having been milked for more than half a decade in the name of NEP, still being treated as ‘pendatang’ and called all sorts of names, only the most stupid and degraded will continue to support this ingrate regime.

Paul Warren: Well, Gerakan and MCA have to play stupid to justify their presence in BN.
This stupid interpretation of what Anwar said is like what court jesters do to entertain their royal masters. They self deprecate themselves to amuse the audience, and in this case their Umno masters.
