TELUK INTAN The DAP is incensed that its Teluk Intan candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud had suffered the worst kind of personal attacks from BN leaders.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said BN should win with honour or lose with grace by sticking to issues and not stooping to character assassination against Dyana.

Dyana, 27, is facing Gerakan president Mah Siew Kong in a straight fight for the mixed seat.

Guan Eng described the character assassination as having “sexist overtones and falsehoods”.

“Instead of talking about price hikes, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and corruption that impacts negatively on the rakyat, BN is making ferocious personal attacks to cast a slur on Dyana’s character,” Guan Eng said in a statement today.

He was referring to BN questioning Dyana’s qualifications as a lawyer, to the comments on her looks including circulation of fake bikini photos of her, and critics calling her a liar and cry-baby who needs a pacifier .

He described Penang Gerakan Youth’s gesture in offering Dyana a pacifier for her apparent dependence on DAP’s senior leader Lim Kit Siang as “horrible”.

“This level of hatred and gutter politics is unprecedented in a by-election,” said the Penang chief minister.

Guan Eng also chided Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir for attacking Dyana for her personal appearance when he remarked that her campaign posters were not consistent - sometimes showing her wearing a tudung, at other times, not.

He lambasted Penang Gerakan chairperson Teng Chang Yeow for labelling Dyana as a “3N” candidate - “no integrity, no honesty and no sincerity”.

“He has been rejected twice by voters in Penang in the 2008 and 2013 general elections, precisely because Teng has no integrity, no honesty and no sincerity,” Guan Eng shot back.

He slammed Gerakan party adviser Chang Ko Youn for saying that Dyana’s stand on hudud is inconsistent.

Dyana had expressed support for the DAP’s stand of not opposing hudud in Islam but opposing the implementation of hudud laws in Malaysia because it is unconstitutional.

‘Dyana’s stand better than that of Umno leaders’

“Dyana’s stand is better than that of Umno leaders who want to implement hudud laws for all,” Guan Eng said.

“Is BN so desperate that they have to go down to such level in a desperate bid to avoid explaining the issue of price hikes of sugar, petrol, electricity and motor insurance premiums?” Guan Eng asked.

“They have avoided explaining the issue of the gangsterism of Umno members who used violence in intruding into the Penang legislative assembly as well as attacking and threatening to burn DAP offices in Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan,” Guan Eng added.

“By resorting to such dishonest tactics, BN have shown that they are not fit to rule Malaysia,” Guan Eng stressed.

He urged Teluk Intan voters  to reject such gutter politics by rejecting BN on polling day this Saturday, May 31.
