The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is hunting down those who have posted comments deemed insulting to the institution of royalty, especially on the late Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, over the social media.

“We are tracking down these individuals and appeal to the members of public who may have information that can help our investigation to come forward,” commission chairperson Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi said.

MCMC viewed the matter seriously and action would be taken against those responsible under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Sharil added in a statement issued today.

Sultan Azlan Shah, who had reigned as Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 1989 to 1994, passed away at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday at the age of 86.

The late ruler’s eldest son, the Regent of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah, 58, was yesterday was proclaimed his successor.
