Come back to BN politics, minister tells teachers

Chitra-ngada-: Since teachers are no longer banned from participating in politics (provided this involvement doesn't interfere with their responsibility as teachers), they should in droves immediately join a political party that (in their minds) is best able to fight for the rights and the betterment of all Malaysians, irrespective of race, religion and economic status.

 

Then we shall see what the government will do to all the teachers who support parties other than those in the BN coalition.

 

Also all teachers should collectively inform the Education Ministry about their membership and participation in the political party of their choice.

 

It would be very interesting to see if BN would be able to sack all of the teachers who support political parties other than BN-affiliated parties from government schools throughout Malaysia.

 

Lim Chong Leong: Teachers were banned from politics. Now the ban is lifted but they are only allowed to join BN politics. Any teacher caught supporting the opposition are warned or threatened.

 

If I were a teacher, I would love to have political freedom, but that is not going to happen. Given what Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is offering, I would rather not be in politics than to be forced to support BN.

 

CQ Muar: Adnan, on the one hand, you declared that teachers are now allowed to participate in politics, but on the other, the Education Ministry reprimanded a teacher (over her Facebook posting relating to Teluk Intan candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud's campaign poster).

 

What you are audaciously implying is that teachers are restricted in politics only as "pro-government" supporters. Anything against the government will be prohibited and liable for punishment.

 

You appear to take Malaysians as fools like you - taking us back to those cave-dwellers era. As such, dignified teachers must and should exercise their intelligence and freedom by refusing to be led by the nose.

                                   

Hafidz Baharom: I would wish teachers to remain apolitical simply because I'd rather not have politics seep into the educating of students at all. There needs to be a buffer limiting teachers from spewing political rhetoric on school grounds. 

 

And I mean on school grounds only; not at home or on Facebook after working hours. That's their right to voice out as individuals off the clock.

 

Teachers have a history of supporting Umno, and if I recall they had backed Musa Hitam during his time in office rather openly, according to his biography. 

 

This isn't new. The fact that Umno is asking teachers to return to the fold is perhaps due to the fact that the party is seeing a drop in numbers of teachers taking part.

 

The lack of teachers is just further proof that Umno is experiencing a brain drain, which is a nationwide problem.

 

Adnan is basically asking for more brains in Umno. And judging by Facebook posts being monitored by the Education Ministry, it's an uphill battle.

 

Fairplayer: Teachers should be allowed the freedom to air their political views, but they must not go overboard to the point they fail to be good teachers.

 

They must be allowed the freedom of choice to join BN or Pakatan Rakyat, and the freedom to be vocal without being threatened, and without spewing racism, and they must not let politics jeopardise their commitment and standard of teaching.

 

Clearwater: Yes, teachers back in, contractors get out.

 

Perhaps then we can have the old pre-Mahathir Umno back - a party with ideals and principles instead of corrupt money grubbers.

 

 

PKR: Umno using teachers as propagandists

Where Is Justice: This is yet another dirty plot by the Umno (again, BN does not exist anymore) for teachers to inculcate students with Umno propaganda from early on, hoping to gain a majority in the future elections.

 

But as dumb as the current Umno heads are, such as Adnan, they have never thought that God has given human beings a pair of eyes to see, ears to hear, a brain to judge and a compassionate heart to distinguish right from evil.

Appum: This is a wishy-washy government with wishy-washy policies. They want to remain in power without any concern for the future of this nation.

 

They will do anything and say anything to achieve their goals. Indeed, for them desperate times need desperate actions.

 

People can judge for themselves. Can such a government bring the nation forward? We must change the government before it's too late. In fact, it's already 50 years too late.
