Vijay47: Good Mahathir, please stop coming out with your new brand of profound and inspiring statements, my poor tender heart just can't take it.

First you say that Jais was wrong in destroying the happiest day in a lady’s life. Then you say that unlike PM Najib Razak, you would not have sued Malaysiakini and would have tolerated all manner of insults and curses.

And now the clincher, that street protests are acceptable if they are meant to overthrow tyrants and similar animals.

These new discoveries, did they suddenly occur to you when you woke up one of these recent mornings or were they revealed to you in a burst of divine light?

I am sure you will soon come out another truth of life, that Malays are Malays and Indians are Indians. Even if they come from Kerala.

Fair Play: It may sound strange. But I am beginning to see former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a different light now judging from his recent 'posturing' covering several key issues that drive the various communities apart instead of cohesiveness that is so crucial to nation building.

No doubt the present malaise facing the nation is due to weak leadership thus encouraging the various extremist elements to take the law into their own hands.

It would appear that Mahathir is also on the side of Malaysiakini and by extension, on the rakyat's side. Or is it because this is the only avenue available to him now?

Awakened: Fair Play, there are two scenarios which could possibly make our ex-PM change his outlook in life and politics. First, he could have felt that the threat from Opposition Leader Anwar is gone and feels safer to side with the opposition to right all the wrongs.

Second, he could be genuinely trying to repent after seeing the damage done by Umno caused directly or indirectly by his own doing during his 22 year rule.

The recent events like the missing MH370, kidnapping in Sabah , Umno Youth storming Penang Assembly , stupid statements from Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia ( Isma ) , recent Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) intrusion on a Hindu wedding and Cadbury fiasco must have made him felt that if the present leadership remains, the country will go down the drain.

Lastly, it may be the righteous Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud who made him change since her mother said that she looks more like Marina even though she wanted to bring her up to be like Mukhriz. Notice that he did not comment on the recent BN win in Teluk Intan.

Dark Knight: I can't believe it. Are we seeing a dramatic change with this old man? Is it for real?

JMC: Well said, Mahathir. This is what going to happen if Umno-BN continues to deny the people their rights and continues to repress them with abusive laws and racist tactics.

How long are the people going to remain suppressed and voiceless? How long are they going to "feed" the corrupt with their sweat and toil? There is a limit to their patience.

The arrest of politicians, many of them gentle souls who loved this country more than many of the serving politicians; the long, sustained assault on a judiciary that always stood up to defend the law and the constitution; the shameful sacking of the Lord President of the Supreme Court of the country; the shocking affidavit on the front page of a local daily that introduced the word 'sodomy' to my six-year-old daughter; the parading of a mattress with stains of bodily fluids; the sacking of a deputy prime minister; the damned and prolonged trials to prove anal intercourse; the crippling of a race by the assertion that they are inferior; the constant dismissal of legal rights; the expropriation of public utilities; infusing universities and schools with the toxin of mediocrity; an indifference to the future, future generations and the development of this country as a sane place for our children; the bending of all decent principles.

Casey: Mahathir, while your intention of aligning your thoughts - to be more in sync with the unstoppable revolt and changing trend - shall remain opaque, you're right this time around.

The government, to begin with, was instituted by the people, to look after their inalienable rights as provided for under the Federal Constitution. Hence, the government derived its just powers from the mandate of the people and not the other way around.

But if the government, exploited by a greedy few, becomes destructive and acts against the interest of the nation by transgressing upon the people's livelihood, liberty and their well being, then it is the right of the people to protest, to oppose it, and to institute a new government within what is provided for in the constitution.

And that include taking to the streets in peaceful assemblies.

Apa Nama: Mahathir, beside the vote and street demonstrations which could be used to change a government of a day, you should learn from our British master.

The Queen today in her speech mentioned about a bill whereby voters could recall their MP is they have engaged in serious wrongdoing.

The bill requires voters to collect the signatures of 10 per cent of constituents to force a by-election.

Lin Wenquan: Mahathir’s latest pronouncement does not mean there is a change in his tyrannical streak.

He is subtlety hinting the imminent removal of the PM by Umno members aligned to him by fair or foul means.

The pall of silence hanging over the country in the past few months with the PM in virtual self-imposed isolation from the potentially explosive words and deeds by bigots is an ominous sign that all is not well in Putrajaya.
