No need for Mahathir to sue, he had ISA
YOURSAY ‘He would just harass with whatever means possible under his disposal.’
Najib can but I won't sue Mkini, says Mahathir
Abasir: The imbeciles who are advising Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak must be the same ones who persuaded him to nominate Perkasa vice-president Zulkifli Noordin for Shah Alam in the last election, take to the stage in support of a Korean horsing around , spend millions on 'I Love PM' signs, guided him to make a grandstanding statement about a plane ending in the Southern Indian Ocean (and then quickly slink away) and got him to declare the price of kangkung to an electorate already choking with disgust at broken promises.
Given the company he keeps, we may expect more of the same even as he clinches the title 'Most Ridiculed PM Ever'.
Myop101: On this, Dr M has been very consistent. He saw during his tenure as PM what the Singaporean leaders did and he disagreed. He never sued any who reported on him negatively.
Capo: However, during Mahathir's tenure, he preferred jailing his critics rather than suing them.
Armageddon : Najib is suing Malaysiakini for the comments made by the readers. Is it a signal to all readers, that soon, Najib will be suing us?
When that happens is our court open minded enough for us to sue Najib one day?
Doc: Najib is just insecure. He is living in his own utopia where everything is honky dory and Najib is a great leader.
His followers who are his cronies just love him and suck up to him, all the time praising him for his greatness, further enhancing Najib's ego.
So here comes a news portal that provides news that contradicts the Najib utopia. Worse still, there are comments from subscribers that shatter the ‘Happy Happy’ Najib world.
So now Najib is crying "boo hoo hoo" and wants to teach this news portal a lesson by suing it.
Anonymous1234: Yes, he wouldn't sue for sure. He would just harass with whatever means possible under his disposal - suspend licence, ISA, and what not.
Vijay47: Prior to knowing what exactly the Writ of Summons contained, I was wondering whether perhaps some of the readers' comments had crossed acceptable limits and trespassed into defamation.
But now, having read the actual wording of the Statement of Claim and the relevant extracts from Yoursay, one thing is manifestly clear - that Najib continues to be advised by perhaps the greatest bunch of imbeciles this side of the equator.
It surely must be the same herd which suggested that he come out with the kangkung and RM1 chicken works of art.
Bad move, Najib, plenty bad move. You should have been more mature. Since you are a co-plaintiff, you will have to give testimony and there will be no protective Augustine Paul decreeing "not relevant".
The defence team must surely be sharpening their knives and I am afraid, for you and your comrades, a good time will not be had by all.
Law students must be laughing their heads off over what you are suing for. In fact, I am rolling on the floor.
Ex-PJ: Many commentators here believe that Najib has been given poor advice. I think not. He is unable to make the right decision, and his rise in Umno can only be attributed to parentage and a lack of competitive talent within.
Looliloo: Mahathir, you won't sue because you have too many skeletons in your cupboard.
You don't have long to live and the only ones who'll suffer will be your offsprings who have benefitted the most from handouts and other perks and privileges, whilst you were the despot running and ruining the country.
The ‘ordinary’ rakyat is still paying the price today.
Anonymous_1371482984: The lawyers will be elated to get Najib on the witness stand.
My only hope is that the judge will not be so stupid as to rule that Najib need not testify at the witness stand.
On the other hand, I won't be surprised if before the date of hearing, the matter will be settled to the satisfaction of all the parties concerned except members of the public who will not get to hear the juicy details of Najib's dealings.
Anonymous_3e21: “In politics, you get cursed and you get praised.”
But the problem with Najib as we all knows, he always like to be praised all the time hence the trouble Malaysia is having as he is being surrounded by court jesters, ex-Oxford graduate included.
I Wonder?: Mahathir is a lot smarter than Najib. If he got involved in any defamation case, whether sued or be sued, all the dirt would be dug out and dirty linen washed in the open.
Whether the case won or lost, he had a lot more to lose. Najib is literally digging own grave committing political suicide by initiating case against any news portal.
Angel: Why didn’t Najib sue the late private eye P Balasubramanian on his claim about SD (statutory declaration) 2 ?
