Does cabinet agree with Jamil Khir on Jais?

YOURSAY ‘Can I go around town and do what I deem as ‘protecting my religion’.’

Jamil Khir: Jais wedding raid 'protecting Islam'

Tholu: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom, you have unwittingly given us an insight on how Umno ministers have no respect and regard for law and order and how you transgress them with impunity as and when it suits you.

How arrogant and an abuser of power can you be to suggest that Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) did the right thing in gatecrashing the Hindu wedding ceremony.

Even Jais itself admits that what it did was wrong and against its SOP (standard operating procedure).

With ministers like you, sanctioning the arbitrary usurpation of power by some overzealous officers, it wouldn’t be surprising that you would also not take any action against government officers involved in bribery.

You say Jais action was in pursuit of safeguarding the interest of Islam. If so, can you please tell me if you would support Jais action if it were to forcefully pry open the bedroom doors of private homes as well as hotel room doors to see if there are any Muslim involved in committing the serious sin of zina (sex outside of marriage) - all in the name of safeguarding Islam?

Aries46: How does one argue with a moron that is unable to see beyond race and religion?

What Jamil Khir says amounts to condoning the barbaric act of Zarina Abdullah Majid’s wayward father in converting his minor offspring without the knowledge of either the converted children or their mother, the cruel act of breaking up the legally constituted family unit, putting a Muslim tag on the converted minors and then resorting to all means possible to prevent them from renouncing it when they realised the father’s folly.

In the case of Zarina, she claims ignorance of her conversion, being abandoned by her father, having lived a practicing Hindu all her life and being denied her rights to remove the Muslim tag on her MyKad by the National Registration Department.

And to add insult to injury this so-called minister justifies the inhuman, insensitive and illegal raid by Jais into a Hindu sacred place of worship to disrupt Zarina’s marriage purely on the strength of the Muslim tag in her MyKad as “safeguarding Islam”.

Sali Tambap: Jais has transgressed all social norm in the name of protecting Islam. They have allowed themselves to be ‘biadap’ (uncouth) and this minister of the BN government condones it.

They have done all that were against the good etiquette that the Malays by nature hold dearly. What they had done was not the normal Malay behaviour as they would not be caught dead for being ‘kurang ajar’.

So what is this new development as epitomised by Jais? Are they reflecting the new trend of Malay behaviour? I guess not. Many Malays would be greatly disturbed by Jais action.

If we look at all the cases where Jais raided other religions’ house of worship, all those cases were merely based on hearsays and none were proven outright to be against the law of the country. Yet Jais was willing to go into their sacred places of worship and desecrated them.

Considering how sensitive the Malays are with regards to their religion and culture, it is mind boggling that Jais could do the same to others without blinking an eye.

Without professing to be too religiously inclined, I'm still certain that the underpinning philosophy for every mainstream religions - Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism - is kindness and tolerance.

As human, we are endowed with sense, reason, and intellect that no God, in whatever beliefs, would want us to forego. We cannot possibly claim to believe in God unless we believe in ourselves.

And how could we claim to believe in ourselves if we're so fragile in our beliefs that we can be so easily influenced to change our religious faith?

Bystander: Jamil Khir is treating Islam in Malaysia akin to be a very helpless and weak religion, needed protection and be on the offensive based on mere suspicion or wild accusation by raiding churches and weddings of other faiths.

Please don't insult Islam on the pretext of protecting it. Why not also check on Idris Jala? His name sounded very much Muslim and maybe you could find bibles and other Christian paraphernalia in his home too.

May I suggest also Nancy Sukri as her name could be both Christian and Muslim.

Swipenter: Just by throwing the excuse of "protecting Islam" and they can do what they want? Explain to us what you mean by "protecting Islam"?

Can I go around town and do what I deem as "protecting my religion" and gate crash a wedding when the bride or groom is of a different religion as mine because that would pose a threat to my religion.

Jiminy Qrikert: 'Protecting Islam' has just taken on a very dangerous turn in this country and it is even scaring the moderate Muslims. It was not too long ago when protectors of the faith like Jais were just table pounding while protesting at the top of their voices.

Then the church attacks erupted. PM Najib Razak kept silent. Interpreted as tacit government approval for 'protectors of the faith' to launch physical attacks, Jais began its campaign to illegally break into churches to conduct search and seizures.

The confrontation and raiding another religious institution by Jais was again defended by the government. Emboldened, Jais has widened its campaign to now attack a Hindu temple, again on the pretext of 'protecting the faith.'

This emerging pattern has ominous consequences for the country. Coupled with the call to implement hudud and the sworn objective of PAS to make Malaysia an Islamic country, it won't be long before Malaysia joins the ranks of failed states like Sudan, Somali, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Naatamai: Just days ago MCA was saying that Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim is responsible for the fiasco. Now we have their "bedmate" from Umno saying Jais' action is professional. What have you got to say now?

Cheong Sai Fah: If you believe what is being said, it seems that Islam is under threat constantly. It baffles me how the majority race who are Muslims by right of birth or definition can be so threatened.

Perhaps this so-called threat is being perpetuated for political gains.

Well Thats Fantastic: Why does it appear that so many of the people in charge of my religion are not nice people?

They should be the most understanding, peaceful, conscientious people in the country but most seem the exact opposite.
