Kidex may get Pakatan kicked out in GE14

YOURSAY 'Khalid has his points, but he is not handling this professionally.'

Councillors rebut Kidex, no traffic report yet

Apa Nama: Looks like Kidex (Kinrara-Damansara Expressway) could be 'Kick out Pakatan' in the coming GE14.

PKR de-factor leader Anwar Ibrahim, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, you people better put your foot into the matter. Otherwise you have no one to blame except yourself if you lose Selangor.

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is not handling this professionally even though he has his points. Before someone play this out, better move in and defuse it.

Hearty Malaysian: Time to change MB, Pakatan has the responsibilities to do so or it risk losing Selangor.

Hello: Why isn't Pakatan facing this head on? If the majority of the elected assemblypersons are dissatisfied with the MB, get him to stand down or pass a vote of no confidence in the assembly! Get on with your job Pakatan! The rakyat are getting restless and your credibility is at stake!

Guyintheglass: MB, it looks like you have given up on a third term.

Anonymous #48453460: Khalid seems to favour and support all controversial projects, like Langat 2 water treatment plant and Kidex. He is operating in UMNO-style.

There are three levels of government, federal, state and local government. Umno's federal government okays crony capitalism while state government goes by Umno-style decisions by Khalid only.

What about the state executive council? The local government and lawmakers are not supporting Kidex. Why is Khalid bending over backward to support crony concessionaires, an Umno lawyer and judge?

Is there anything to suggest that he is in distress over the loan settlement with the federal government-owned Bank Islam? Even his own lawyer is kept in the dark on this issue.

Casey: Khalid is biased. There are obviously serious issues that merit consideration:

  • Is this another callous privatization of toll roads to enrich cronies where the cost of construction, the concession period and toll rates are grossly inflated?

  • Tolls create bottlenecks especially within heavily populated urban areas; hence would Kidex actually aggravate traffic woes instead of solving it?
  • Is the compulsory acquisition, of huge numbers of private properties to make way for Kidex, in line with the constitutional rights of property ownership?
  • Are there better alternatives; such as, improving public transportation as this would better serve the lower income group with no private transportation.
  • But then, can we trust recalcitrant Khalid to be objective?

Habib RAK: Assuming that the traffic impact assessment indicates that Kidex is a viable and in fact recommended, would the affected residents accept it?

Hplooi: I can list more than 10 reasons why Kidex does not benefit Petaling Jaya (PJ). The chief reason being that it will not reduce or mitigate traffic as it is claimed. It will in fact promote and attract more traffic creating more traffic jams, and this will be along the main arteries of PJ.

Due to the massive resources allocated, sustainable public transportation will be given little attention. In my opinion, this project exists as a political reward for certain parties.

The worst thing would be, should the federal government accede to PJ-ites protest, they will shelve Kidex (or at least that part going across PJ) but will henceforth withhold all development on public transportation for PJ.

That would be the worst form of punishment. So we should insist on "No to Kidex" but "please don't forget public transportation" as that would be our right.

Fair Play: And Khalid went on record to say that as a professional, he could not make a decision based on political pressure. With this disclosure, did he jump the gun and take the side of Kidex?

Selangor assemblypersons, you are accountable to the rakyat, not Khalid.

Anonymous_1395303251: What a joke the state government is. Thank God the Petaling Jaya councillors know where their duty lies.

That's is why those scum removed many good councillors, only a handful are left among their appointed office boys and drivers now filling up the ranks. They want people who will follow them so they can repay favours.

Basically: On the contrary, I think the whole Kidex fiasco shows how a decent working government should progress.

The councillors and assemblypersons are showing they are willing to challenge their party and state bosses, their MPs are willing to go head-to-head with their colleagues, and information is coming out and the people are allowed to get involved.

Remember the Federal government has a hand in this, and this being a BN government, has its pitfalls that even Khalid has to tiptoe over.

The situation is far better than in BN states, where the boss rams everything through and the representatives just keep quiet or bury the issues and the MPs look the other way (usually towards Selangor or Penang for anything to sir up).

It's not as if all is hunky dory in Negri Sembilan, Johor, Malacca, Sabah, Sarawak, Pahang or Kedah.

Drngsc: Good work councillors. Keep doing your duty. This is democracy in action. Please keep standing up for the right thing and the best for all the people of Selangor.
