PARLIAMENT The federal government is seeking a RM4.112 billion supplementary supply budget for the 2014 budget, about eight months after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak tabled a RM264.2 billion budget for the 2014 fiscal year.

This is the first supplementary budget sought by the government since the budget last year, with RM3 billion of the additional supply to be channelled for Treasury General Services.

The Education Ministry is the second highest recipient, with RM634 million of the additional budget sought.

The Supply Bill is one of six Bills being tabled in Parliament today, with the other five being amendment Bills to existing acts.

The federal government regularly tables at least two Supplementary Supply Bills for every federal budget over the past few years.

The government is also seeking now to set up a new foundation, called Yayasan Guru Tun Hussein Onn, in order to train teachers and improve the standard of education in the country.

The bill for the foundation, called the Yayasan Guru Tun Hussein Onn Bill 2014, is being tabled by the Education Ministry.
