A family representative today claimed the remains of Gareth David Huntley from the Forensic Department of Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.

British citizen Huntley, 34, a volunteer at a turtle sanctuary, was found dead in Sungai Mentawang, Kampung Juara in Pulau Tioman on Wednesday.

His remains were claimed by the family’s representative, Casket Paradise Funeral Care Sdn Bhd, at 1.30pm.

A spokesperson for the funeral company said Huntley’s remains would be brought to Kuala Lumpur before being flown to Britain on Wednesday for the funeral.

Huntley’s mother Janet Southwell and his lover Kit Natariga were nowhere to be seen at the hospital.

On Saturday, Pahang police chief Shariffuddin Ab Ghani confirmed that the body found in Sungai Mentawang, Kampung Juara, Tioman was that of Gareth David Huntley who was reported missing on May 27.

It was confirmed via DNA test conducted on blood sample from his mother Janet Southwell which was 99.99 percent similar to the DNA of Huntley’s bone.
