Johor PAS Youth has expressed disappointment that the state assembly rammed through the controversial Housing and Property Board Bill in one day, without adequate time for study.

 

Sinar Harian today reported that its chief Mohd Faizul Mohd Salleh said that BN reps fast-tracking the bill was akin to betraying public trust.

 

"We feel that one day is not enough. There should be enough time to examine the bill because there are several sections that warrant further scrutiny," Mohd Faizul ( right ) was quoted as saying.

 

He added that based on his understanding, some state assemblypersons did not receive the amended version of the bill, which was passed in the 13th Johor state assembly on Monday.

 

Pakatan Rakyat assemblypersons, who make up 18 out of 56 members of the House, did not raise their hands to signify support for the bill.

 

The bill was first tabled at 2.30pm after 10 amendments were made, which reduced powers it had earlier accorded to the sultan.

 

The amendment came as many questioned if the bill gave too much power to the royalty to tip Malaysia's constitutional monarchy closer to an absolute monarchy system.

 

Mohd Faizul added that care must be taken so that the royal institution is not seen to be tied into state executive matters, which could drag down the good name and honour of the Johor sultan.
