The National Water Services Commission (Span) has not yet received any application from the Selangor government to carry out water rationing in the Klang Valley due to the dry weather.
Its chief executive officer Teo Yen Hua said, “We will wait for the request, if any. At the moment, there's no plan to carry out water rationing.”
Teo was met by reporters after he opened the Water Services Industry Act 2006 Awareness and Compliance Seminar 2014 for Kedah and Perlis in Alor Setar today.
Yesterday, Energy, Green Technology and Water Deputy Minister Mahdzir Khalid was reported as saying that water rationing in the Klang Valley might return if water in the Sungai Selangor Dam dropped to a worrying level due to the El Nino weather phenomenon.
Teo declined to comment further on the matter, other than saying that the minister or deputy minister would make an announcement on it later.
