MCA and Gerakan today urged a Selangor assemblyperson from Umno to discontinue his plan to table a motion on hudud law during the upcoming Selangor state assembly sitting which convenes on June 16.

MCA vice-president, Chew Mei Fun (left) said she regretted the action by Sungai Air Tawar assemblyperson Kamarol Zaki Abdul Malik, who is reported wants to table the motion, as there has been no consensus within the Barisan Nasional over the implementation of Hudud law till now.

 

"As the Umno wakil rakyat mulls whether to table the said motion, he is undoubtedly falling into the trap set out by Pakatan, especially by PAS," she said in a statement.

'Hudud discriminatory'

Chew said she believed Selangor does not need any form of implementation of hudud law nor should it become the subject of any assembly debate.

She said the country has a comprehensive set of criminal laws and two sets of laws will bring about confusion and conflict.

    

"Politics is about managing everyone's business. The implementation of any policy should be measured from the national point of view," she added.

Meanwhile, Selangor Gerakan chairperson David Ang (right) said his party strongly opposed the move by Kamarol Zaki to table the motion on Hudud law.  

"Selangor Gerakan firmly opposes the proposal as hudud is inherently unconstitutional and discriminatory," he said in a statement.

He also urged DAP and PKR leaders in Selangor to express their stand on the Hudud issue for clarification.  

Meanwhile, Kamarol Zaki, when contacted by Bernama , said that he planned to table a motion on hudud law but added that it was up to Selangor state assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh whether to accept or reject the motion for debate.
