The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will upgrade its radar systems to better equip its defensive mechanism to ensure the security of the country.    

 

RMAF chief General Rodzali Daud ( left ) said since the current radar system for 15 years old, the proposal for upgrading would be discussed with the government.    

 

The capability of the radar system would be upgraded in terms of its avionic technology and processing system.    

 

"We are already putting a case to upgrade and improve the capabilities in terms of processor and to address avionic," he told reporters after presenting prizes to winners of essays in conjunction with the 56th anniversary of RMAF, KL today.    

 

Though the allocation for the upgrading has yet to be decided, Rodzali believed it would be carried out under the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK-11).    

 

 "We are going to do that, its available and can be done. It costs money plus, it is already in our RMK but we are trying to get it earlier," he said.    

 

Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein had said that there was a need to strengthen the nation’s military assets, including the radar system, following the disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370.    

 

Hishammuddin had said that Malaysia's radar surveillance should be reviewed to equip the Malaysian military with the latest technology.
