Bingkor assemblyperson Jeffrey Kitingan has slammed cabinet minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan for threatening Malaysians against questioning the basis of the formation of Malaysia.

Jeffrey (left) said that by doing so, Abdul Rahman is “out of touch with reality and present undercurrents".

He claimed that many Sabahan and Sarawakians who would prefer to opt out of Malaysia due to alleged non-compliance to Malaysia Agreement.

“It is wrong for the minister to threaten and intimidate patriotic Malaysians from questioning the non-compliance of the Malaysia agreement, and thereby questioning whether there should be a separation of ways, if the basis of formation continues to be breached...

“He should listen to the voices of the people and present their views on Sabah rights to the federal government as a leader from Sabah,” the State Reform Party (Star) chief said.

He was responding to Abdul Rahman, who is also Kota Belud MP, who said that authorities should act on those using social media to instigate Sabahans to push for secession from Malaysia.

The Housing and Local Government Minister also described the move as dangerous as it undermines national stability.

Jeffrey, who campaigned on a platform of 'Borneo power' said that if Abdul Rahman truly wants to be patriotic, he should do more to combat the illegal migrants issue in Sabah.

'Instant Malaysians'

This included allegations of fake identity cards and “two-minute instant Malaysians”, some of whom have been arrested after comitting serious crimes.

“Why is the minister not calling for these fake Malaysians to be arrested for being security threats to the peace and harmony of Malaysia?"

He said that these rights were “eroded” since the formation of Malaysia in 1963 and citing separation due to non-compliance to the Agreement is fair.

He added that Abdul Rahman was also forgetting that it was Sabahans who were kingmakers in the last general election and led to him appointed to cabinet.

The threats, he said, only showed that the minister is “trapped in the mindset of a fuedal Umno or Malayan warlord”.

“If the Minster is a true Sabahan, he should ask himself which is true, ‘Sabah maju jaya dalam Malaysia’ (Sabah propers in Malaysia) or ‘Sabah termiskin dalam Malaysia’ (Sabah poorest in Malaysia)?”

Jeffrey also stressed that Sabah and Sarawak “did not join Malaysia” as Malaysia did not exist prior to 1963 and “would not have existed” without Sabah and Sarawak.
