MCA Selangor has called on the state assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh to stop prancing around a hudud motion that serves no purpose and will probably go nowhere.

 

MCA's state liaison committee deputy chief Donald Lim Siang Chai said that he could not fathom why DAP's Yeoh would even allow the motion on the feasibility of implementing it through.

 

"There is no way that such a motion can be passed in Selangor as BN is the minority in the state assembly, unless of course DAP is willing to cooperate with PAS to allow the implementation of hudud.

 

"Therefore, I see no need for such a motion to be tabled," Lim ( right ) said in a press statement.

 

DAP and PAS have 15 seats each in the Selangor assembly versus Umno's 15 seats.

 

Yeoh told a press conference today that she believes Selangorians would like to see this hudud motion debated and would rather that it be done among lawmakers inside the house than in the media.                   

 

Proposed by Sungai Air Tawar assemblyperson Kamarol Zaki Abdul Malik, the motion only urges the Selangor state government to study whether it is feasible to implement hudud in the state, and is not a bill to introduce the Syariah penal code.

 

Even though MCA has no state reps in Selangor's assembly, Lim  still begged to differ.

 

He said a debate on this was nothing more than a waste of the public’s time and money, and would also do nothing to change the fact that Malaysia is indeed a secular nation.

He reminded Yeoh that many other bills mattered to Selangorians.

 

Like many MCA politicians, Lim also blames DAP for hudud's advancement even though the proposals for the controversial Islamic law have come from both PAS and Umno so far.

 

"DAP especially, should be responsible over this issue as the people are looking to them to resolve this," Lim said.
